Blown Engine Help / Core Value

A friend of mine has an 2005. Cyl #6 injector went out on him and took out Cyl #6. So he is looking at re-sleeving the cylinder new piston ring etc. He has a salvaged engine bought and ready to be installed. They said the price would be about the same maybe even a little more with all the machine work to repair the engine in his truck. Now his biggest concern is what is his core worth? Does anyone here want it? 96,000 km's on it and Chrysler would not warranty it due to lack of maintenance records. Also, he might be interested in another engine, because the salvaged engine came from a water damaged truck. No idea if water actually got into engine. Anyone know of an engine that will work in his 05. I think he said he has an auto tranny if that matters.

Don't know if he wants to part it out. I will ask when I talk to him next. I think the head is off right now.

Dodge will give you $2200 core value, if you buy a new engine from them. I might be interested in the engine, if it’s complete. How good is the rest of the engine? Dodge makes me mad, if you don't keep maintenance records (go to dealership for service). If he's still paying on the truck he should tell dodge to keep the truck and walk away. I had all of my records, they still didn't give warranty as I didn't record my mileage and time of filter changes in their system. I learnt that if you record buying the parts department, have them record the mileage of the vehicle (but you still have to buy the parts from dodge). It might be good enough, maybe not, they still have excuses regardless not too honor the warranty claims. I've learnt to buy new trucks with no money down, just for that reason.

I second that motion. The last time I needed warranty work done I was refused by 2 Dodge stealerships, told that they would get to it when they had a chance and beacause I'm always out of town and very rarely get my truck into an actual dealership for service , so they said I probably wouldnt have warranty coverage. So I called the GMC dealer in Drayton valley and not only did they give me a rental for 2 days but they took my truck in that day. I hate to say it but Dodge has left me with a bad feeling this last year or so.

thats another reason why I have never been able to buy a new truck......

1- unreasonable cost
2- unreasonable warrantee

so I stick with moderately older trucks and I am my own warrantee station

Not too mention that its a heck of a lot easier to work on these old 24v's/12v's than it is the CR stuff. Its nice being able to fix low fuel pressure with a BIC pen spring, instead of dropping $500 on a new fuel pump.
