The u-bolts go over the leaf springs, and the plates are under the axle.

ok, thats what I was wondering. square top ubolt, ya.

Mmmm. I was wondering why the rear of this '91 felt squirmy.....well cause it is. buddy gave it the "ol college try"

I'm going to have to rework the ubolts....... well actually install the correct ones is more like it

I'll take some pics.......... he used the stock ones upside down and cut some spring retainers for the tops of the springs out of.... 1/8th inch plate

Did he atleast use a drill to make the holes, or hack them out with a torch/plasma?

thanks, I'd still like a pic for reference. the plate and the holes look plasma cut. and the ubolts are the D70 round tops, which are too narrow to fit a D80 tube so theyre spread as well.

heres what I got. the springs are oviously 1/2" narrower, but aside from that the correct square tops installed the correct direction will fix it up.

your right, it doesn't matter that they're upside down. thats not the problem. the problem is they're 3.5" ubolts on a 4" tube going through a bracket that wasn't designed to have rounds through it. you see there's no clamping force. and the diff squirms, believe me I can feel it. and with 40 profile tires on it there should be zero squirm.

but now thats i see the problem. some square top actual 5/8" ubolts will shore that up I'm sure. its no big deal now. I just couldn't picture what was wrong with it right off the bat
