spooling
TO reply to tate:
how does one decide when and where thier turbo is spooling or fully spooled? Because of the dynograph smoothing effects I can't see any definate spike in the graph that indicates the turbo is adding major juice.
as for on the road impressions, it is hard to say at what rpm i can definately feel the effects of turbo boost. It is like it can be a very subjective judgement.
I hear the tubo whine, I feel boost at all rpm's.
will the boost guage tell me when I am "spooled" should I be looking for a certain amount of psi to decide if I am spooled or not?
as for egt's I never reset the max reading for the pull. probably1400 or 1500 max i guess. thats what i see on the highway.
max boost on highway is 42 lbs.

crank star wheel
judging by this photo might one say I could add some prer boost fueling to spped spoolup? Crank it all the way forward? from what I remember It's only 5 clicks up from stock. how many clicks are lefdt before I hit the stop?
AWWW GEEZE you guys get to have all the fun. This is the second time I have had to work on a Dyno Day. Hoping the next one is on a day off, I want to see what the old junker will do.
ram, the best thing to do is find a open strech of road where there is little to no traffic, bring an allan key, screw driver ect and play around with the star wheel and AFC housing position...and learn as you go. After quite a bit of fooling around you will get a good idea how to set up your truck......at least that is how I do it.

Hey Aaron, just installed the old smarty there tonite. WOW. What a difference. But even with my EZ on 70 and BD on 130 And SMARTY on #5, my clutch still holds and it gets up and goes. Ill be talkin to you tommorow.
spooling
I think I got a lead on this spooling thing. On pg. 180 of nov. diesel power it says "spool time is reduced with the aurora, dropping from 6.1 to 3.7 seconds...."
So i see spooling is a function of time, not really boost...
At what point do i make a timing of my spooling? TIme from idle to redline? In what gear? full throttle or partial throlle feed.. Tate, I read your truck spools faster when you roll into it you said.

Also, would be nice to dyno my truck with full dino fuel.My truck was running a full 100% bio on the last dyno run.Would be a good bench mark to see how much HP is lost between the two fuels..
Shot some video of your truck. My co-workers sure like the shock waves your truck produces when the turbo lights up.Sure more fun working on trucks than computers.
.When does your race season start??

Here's my graph, just got it from Martin.
If I floor the truck, you can feel it bog and blow lots of smoke till about 1800 and the turbo just hits hard. If you roll into it, it comes on sooner, and much smoother. Seems like its too much fuel. Looking at your graph, you're at 300 ft.lbs at 1250 rpm, 450 at 2000 rpm, and then 700 at 2500. Seems like it takes a bit to get going.

I see what you mean now.
