Ability Hose

Anybody deal with them on a regular basis? I've used them a few times and recommended them to a friend that needed a turbo oil drain line made up for his boat.

Turns out they over crimped one of the fittings and pinched it off which caused turbo failure and cost him $900. He's going to go back to talk to them and see what they'll do for him but he's not holding his breath....

Just wondering if this is an isolated incident or if I should start using another shop.....

I think they're pretty reliable for the most part. I've worked at a couple places that did lots of business with them for supplying hose and fittings at least. we made our own hoses.

but let me ask. what size and type of hose was being used for a drainline. and what engine? an overcrimp to the point of closing the ID off is pretty visible. what I mean is pretty obvious by looking at it. and I hope it wasn't undersized to start with. that would fail the turbo on its own, even if it wasn't pinched.

I used them for all my lines on my p-pump conversion, as well as the lines for my twins. I don't have many miles on the twins yet, but the p-pump stuff has been well tested, and no complaints for those.

Thanks for the replies, that was sort my feeling as well, an isolated incident.

The engine is a 6cyl Perkins, he brought in the old hose for a sample so I'm guessing it should have been the correct size. My buddy is kicking himself for not blowing the hose out before installing it. He is a HD mech as well and usually does that before installing it but didn't this time...

So just an update, buddy took the hose back to them, they opened it up and confirmed it was their fault. Somehow a flap of rubber got shaved off inside and acted like a one way valve, you could blow thru it one way not the other and of course it was blocked in the direction of oil flow....

Anyway they made good and covered half the cost of a new turbo.

Man that was good of them. Good to see companies owning up when they make mistakes
