215 pump and timing.

After reading some stuff over it seems like it is safe to run 18 degrees of timing on a stock 215 pump motor without studs due to the retard features of the 215 pump. so if I got my truck bumped to 18 or so degrees would it be safe? or would I be better off with 16?

The retard notches only come in the latter part of the rack travel, so you will still be running 18 degrees for 90% of your driving. Whether its safe or not is purely how much you are willing to gamble. Some gaskets will take it, others won't. Chris ran 24 degrees timing with stock gasket and bolts. Others will pop at 15 degrees.

Ok gotcha. so safe to say 16 would be a safe bet till I upgrade the studs.
