96 NV4500 2wd seal....

I'm slowly working through the issues on old RAE. I needed to pull the driveshafts, since the front one was almost tight against the tranny., getting it shortened tomorrow by an inch or so.

Ended up needing new U-joints all around, my rear one on the Dana I will bring up in another thread.

Anyway the rear tailshaft/output shaft seal was leaking badly so I pulled it out to replace. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal to find this seal at one of the local jobbers BUT they can't find it.

This thing is HUGE, I have never seen a yoke and output shaft this beffie before. I had them pull out every output shaft seal they could cross reference for the 96 NV4500, from 2500-3500, and none are even close to fitting.

Here are a couple pics....

This is compared to the rear yoke on the steady bearing.

Here are the measurements of the seal, OD is 3.023 in and the ID (using the yoke) should be around 2.192 in.

The numbers off the seal are, 68095-J and 4531216 (mopar # ?)

Any help will be muchly appreciated.

That's a dodge number. I typed it into google and first thing that came up....

https://www.checkanumber.com/advsearch.php?start=66600

go to "Edit" and "find" on your browser, and type in the ## and it'll find it on the page. Theres like 20 different dealers that have it. ranging from $9 to $20...lol

Thanks Brandon!!

I left a message at the local Chrysler dealer's parts department voice mail, hope they can get me one ASAP, maybe I'll order a couple.

Anyone found one in the aftermarket?

Most good parts dealer can look up seals by the measurments. Them having one on the shelf is another thing.

Well I went to the Chrysler dealership today, and they said it was a good number. They went in the back and brought out the part...WRONG!!

It had the same part number on it, but was about half the size. The parts guy thinks he knows which seal I need and is bringing it in tomorrow, if it's the right one it's gonna cost $80!! Which is funny because I was joking with my neighbor yesterday about how I can't seem to find this seal, and I said that when I find one it will probably cost me $100....

Well I went down to check out the "other" seal. It appears to be the right one!!

Here is the part number if anyone needs one. This is for a 1996 NV4500, 2wd transmission. Tailshaft/output shaft seal number, 1-05086054AA, or 5086054, the AA is a superseded part number.
