u-connect

My truck (ordered) will have the 730N radio (my wife wanted the back-up camera) and u-connect phone and u-connect web (wifi) is included. I think I understand the phone part pretty well from reading manuals etc., my phones are on the compatible list, have blue tooth etc. so that should work. The web part is a little more of a mystery to me. I think it uses 3G cell phone technology to provide an internet connection and utilizes a router built into the truck to provide a wifi "hotspot" in and around the truck to use laptops or any wifi connected devices. I also believe Cellular is the carrier, not sure about this. A few questions in case there is any experience with these features on the forum:

1) Does it work?
2) What is the cost to get the service? Do they provide a trial at no charge?
3) How is the coverage, we live in a remote area with marginal cell phone coverage so I guess this would be the same.
4) The first long trip with the truck will be to Alaska for a few months -- does anyone know if this service (again I think it is Cellular) works up there -- or at least in some areas up there?

thks for any comments and/or experience, Ed

My understanding is that the Nav Radio option (list price is $800. on a Laramie) includes the u-connect web technology. However, to use it one has to pay a monthly service fee as you would for cell phone service. The electronics needed to create the wifi "hotspot" in the truck is provided with the above described option. I think (not sure) that this same capability can be dealer installed if you didn't get the factory option.
