Tire question
Tire question
Hey all.
At the moment I am running cooper discovery stt 33" tires on a set of slightly offset American Racing rims I picked up off Craisglist.
The tires are great. Had them in the mud, snow, gravel and wet. Have driven the truck all over death valley and numerious dirt roads in the Sierras.
My problem is that the tires are "D" rated and I tow a 28" enclosed trailer on the bumper hitch. Sometime I cram over 12,000 lbs into this rig and the Coopers 50psi max look like they are flat.
I have some long loaded trips coming up and dont want to risk the tires overheating and blowing. I still have some meat on them and considered selling them or pickinf up a used pair of rims with towing only tires.
I would prefer to get a set of "E" rated tires with a rugged thread pettern and not have to pay a fortune to do so.
My truck has a factory lift so I wonder if I could go to 35" while I'm at it.
What are your experiences on tires that will fill my need?
High load, quiet, decent mileage, good offroad and look mean.
I also have a toolbox in my bed that weights approx 2000lb's with all the tools.
Here is a pic of my current set up.

I had the 37" Toyo M/Ts on my 2nd gen. LOVED them! E-rated to 4300 lbs and I rotated them religiously at 7k miles. I got 45k out of my BFG mudders with 1/3 tread left and I was on my way to an easy 50k with the Toyos. 50psi front and 30psi rear empty was perfect to keep the tread flat on the road. 50-60psi rear with a load.
I go front to back on the same side and cross the backs to the fronts (left rear to right front and right rear to left front). That way each tire hits every position, and any weird front wear (shocks, alignment, steering, etc) gets distributed and a spell on the rear helps flatten the tread...
too much thought for tire rotation? probably!

I was going to do the X pattern as well, front left on rear right etc.
Mounting them Saturday.
I will post pics.
