So is the cverdidct that in 2012 they came out with an updated controler. Mine does have about 5 options in the EVIC for brake types, one of them electric over hydraulic. I haven't towed anything of substantial weight yet, but just interested if they fixed this issue on the 12's.

Seems like I have to STAND on the brakes to get the trailer to do anything...if it weren't for the exhaust brake, I would rather tow with my old 95...crappy truck brakes, but at least the trailer did some of the work...

Dealer says it's maxed out the way I have it set, and functioning correctly...

I found out that my truck has 2 settings besides the numbered settings one is for light trailer and the other is for heavy trailer I found it in my users manuel and how to change it with the controls in the center of the gauge panel

i got 2012 and this controller works great I thought I would but it on heavy trailer as mine weighs 10500 loaded, I had to got light trailer and percent about 40 after you pick trailer light or heavy you should hold brake pedal and set pecent on controller and then drive, this all has to be done with trailer conected. also in you settings in evic you will fine a hill assist setting if you turn it to off it will quick the dragging effect I figured that out be expermenting with it. Hope this helps some of you guys, takes time to get right, now all I do is change percent when loaded or unloaded trailer.

I just did the first tow with my '12, hauling my 12,000 lb fifth wheel.

After reading all the negatives about the factory controller, I wasn't expecting much. Controller was set to heavy/electric, and 5.0 on the display.

I can say there are no issues with mine. Trailer stops smooth and in sync with the truck. I'm pleased with the performance so far.

Ditto on this. I also like the adjustability that's there. I used it on one of my lighter trailers with only one brake axle. Worked like a champ. Works just as good if not better than the Prodigy products I usually equip these trucks with.

After reading a few posts about being able to adjust the controller for light or heavy trailers I went out to my 2011 and had a look, then took out the paper owners manual, there is nothing and nothing in the EVIC, no way to adjust for a different trailer, the only adjustment is for the max amount of braking force. So the controller in the 2012's is a different one.

Ditto on my 2010. On another note, just pulled our new 12.5k fiver from Kansas back to home in northeast TN - controller worked OK - I'd hate to have to make a panic stop with it though. Had the gain set to 8.0...

My 2011 doesnt have any adjustability. I think that is just a 2012 thing.

For the record, mine has never had any real issues, and behaves it self fairly well. Has stopped everything Ive pulled without being too quirky.

The integrated in my '11.5 seems to work fine on my 12,000lb 5-ver. I have helped it a little manually a couple of times in the big mountains with twisties.

However, I hooked up to a 20' stock trailer, plugged in my 7-to-6 adapter, started to pull away and was dragging the trailer. My buddy, owner of this trailer and a couple others, says his new Cummins dually does the same thing. Nothing I've read would cause this, but did I miss something? Or, is there a problem with the trailer and we both just happened to have hooked up to same one?

Shootist, check the 6 hole plug to make sure the trailer brake wire is not connected to the hole that gets the full time current for charging trailer batteries on the 7 hole plug. In other words, the 7 to 6 matchup might not be correct. Happened to me a number of years ago.

I have a 2014 3500 with the integrated brake controller, set on 10 and the wheels of the camper (13k 5er) are hardly effective other times at slow speed work great!!. Thinking about installing a P3 controller what errors will you get if you go from the factory controller to an after market one.

I'd like to know this bit of information for a 2010 model as well. This IBC is terrible! Wasn't too bad when pulling a 5k travel trailer but with a 14k fiver, it's barely useful. Have started getting an error code 56 show up occasionally on the controller, as well. When that happens, no trailer brakes at all until it magically decides to go away.

Regards,

Bob

The P3 was plug and play on my 2011. I left the factory one installed just disconnected. All I get is a "Service trailer brake system" message on EVIC every time I start the truck, one push of the button and it clears. It's possible to have the dealer permanently get rid of it by reprogramming the truck not to look for the factory controller but If I ever sell the truck I would remove the P3 and plug he factory one back in. The P3 is awesome, I should have done it much sooner.
