How much does it weigh?

I've got my 3500 dually on order and all thats cool but now I need to know how much the beasty weights. Looking at all the specs GVW gCVW ABC combined XYZ I m totally confused.

I do have a case of the flu and I am taking all kinds of z-pacs, dayquill, nightquill, "quilted" in the bed and so on - so higher brain function is at a minimum effecincy.

Can somebody just tell me what a 2011 dually, megacab weighs?

Thanks

The body builder guide will certainly help pass the time between nyquill shots. The towing section will help decode the alphabet soup of the different weight ratings. Enjoy.

I have an '06 SRW megacab. Took it to a scale and it weighed in at #8100 with a sliding bed insert and some crap on top. My estimate would be about #7900 empty.

But whatever it is it's enough to be charged class 2 tolls on the Pa Pike.

Do they make you go over the scales or is it based on plates? Are you commercial?

The reason I was trying to nail this down is that I'm a disabled vet and qualify for one set of FREE!! Disabled Vet plates in Illinois, BUT they have a 8,000 pound limit. With the wheelchair conversion, the wheelchair and my fat butt added to the truck we are going to be 2-3000 pounds over that limit. Illinois giveth and Illinois taketh away - miserable is the land of Blago.

I want to move back to Texas......

In Illinois doesn't your truck license weight need to include any trailer weight you tow? I'm in Missouri and will need to license my 2011 3500 for 18,000 to cover my 7500# trailer.

I don't think so since trailers are licensed by their own weight. I believe RVs are exempt from scales and such, at least I've never bothered with one. Of course I may have a pile of tickets building up somewhere.

I have been wrong a lot lately, as my wife reminds me - so check for yourself everybody.

Hey Stargeezer, I'm not commercial. I just happened to take a trailer and pick up some sand for a job I was doing. I got weighed at the yard when I picked it up. Later I just subtracted the trailer weight from the empty weigh in when I picked the sand up. You can go to any truck stop and for a few bucks they will give you a weight also. Of course if you get nabbed by the Poooolice they may also do it for ya. Better to get it done on your terms though. I've never been bothered even when towing my travel trailer but I'm not even close to any weight limits.

Do you need a weight tag for the plates, or can you show the data from the Body Builder's guide? Or, is their disabled limit calculated before your required accessibility modifications? I'd think if you took to the DMV a weight tag and a statement from the company that makes the conversion equipment showing the weight of those parts and could show that the base truck is under 8K without them you could make a good argument to the DMV office manager.

Hey Jumper,

Thanks, all that is sense to us regular folks and that most likely will be what I try, But, Alas, we don't work in the DMV and Barny Fife with the scales in the back seat will just be following the letter of the law, as well as the judge as they slap me with a $500 fine - because they have to pay for that shiney new squadcar.

Don't get me wrong, police do a thankless job most of the time but most traffic stops around here are about writting tickets to pay for things.

I'd vote to "GO FOR IT". I've never seen an non-commercial get pulled into a scale or pulled over for an inspection. My take on it is that the only time it would ever come up is in the case of an accident. Then someone may pick up on a registered weight discrepancy. And I doubt it even then. Make sure you keep proper tires on it for safety and the rest is just administrative crap. I tow my trailer all over but then again the issue has never come up.

Hey, I'm also a disabled Vet, maybe we'll cross trails someday.

Auf wiedersehen,
