Finally Drove One
In summary, I was impressed. It was a 2500 Cummins, 6 sp auto, crew, short bed, white with Big Horn pkg, cloth bucket seats. The ride was better than expected, you knew you were in a beefy truck but it rode and handled superb. A little bouncing around but smoother and quieter than expected. We have a Yukon Denali which I consider the best riding and handling large SUV available so the Ram didn't quite match that but was far better than I remember 3/4 ton trucks to ride. It had 3.73 gears and had very responsive acceleration, I think it could easily handle the 3.42 gears which I would probably get if I special ordered the truck -- the 3.73 were fine however. The ability to manual shift the automatic and lock it in a gear was great. The driver seat was very comfortable, the passenger seat had manual controls and no lumbar adj -- not a big deal but a step down from both of our current vehicles. I tried some u-turns and took it in a supermarket parking lot -- the tight turning radius was also impressive and exceeded my expectations. It is not exactly what I would order (it had the nav radio which I think is overkill)but I told them to work up a quote -- I could live with it. I remain a little undecided on optimum seating (assuming the leather is flawed as indicated in this forum.) The premium bench cloth seat and the bucket cloth seats seem at a quick glance to have the same passenger and driver "bucket" seats -- the only difference being the center seating area vs the larger console. The center seat has little leg room and is very uncomfortable for all but a small kid which probably shouldn't be in the front anyway -- but it does provide another seat for a short trip --and the console seems larger than needed.
All in all an impressive truck! Ed

FYI my new order truck is in and just worked out a deal. I took the sepcial financing 1.9% 5 year isntead of the $1k rebate, and i was able to get $6k off the MSRP and i know they are still making good money. I was happy with the deal however.
Congrats, sounds like a good deal. What did you discover and conclude re. the leather seat situation described on this forum? It seems to me that the Laramie offers seating upgrades other than the leather that are not available on any other model however it also seems that you have to get the leather perforated seats to get the high end stuff (like powered/heated passenger seats etc.). I was thinking that if I ordered a Laramie, Dodge should have this issue fixed by time of delivery because if they are providing warranty seat replacements it has to be a focus item. Is there any later news on this topic. Anyway, I think you just ordered a great truck. Ed
Did you say you ordered yours and they knocked off $6K? That's not too bad for a new truck When I ordered my '05 Laramie, they knocked off $5K and at the time, I was happy with that. Ended up being an 11.1% discount from msrp.
I've thought about ordering this time agin, because 4WD with 4.10's are hard to find here. But man, I hate waiting. But I've waited twice before for my mexican built truck.

lol, yes i found it interesting it was a mexican built truck. I ended up waiting 2 months and it sucked. i ordered 11/07 and it just got here. yes i got 6k off not using any incentives. i didnt even have to give a deposit, nor did we discuss price. The guy told me they would order and if we couldnt make a deal then they would sell on the lot. I couldnt pass that up. I did some shopping in the meantime so i had some ammo. local dealers offered me $4000 off. I went to another they offered a whopping $2500. I then told them i would consider until they gave me $5k off. They ho hummed around so i left. My truck got in and their first offer to me was $5000 off MSRP. I told them we had a deal at $6k and they said ok. Pretty easy actually.
after having an 04 with a 4 speed , 3.73's 35" tires and occaisionally pulling a 15k trailer, i decided to never get 3.73's again. That old combo was horrible when pulling. Im sure the new 6 speed would help but 4.10's, that size tire again would be th ebetter route IMO. Ill know for sure when i hook up to the trailer in a month

If you do not like the leather seats that come on the truck then save the money and get the cloth. My 07 has the YES cloth seats and I love them. You can have the cloth seat covered with a high grade leather for less money then Dodge wants. just a thought

I agree but I am not hung up on leather or cloth, either would work for me. In fact I think they should get off of the "leather" spin and just use some of the good naugahide materials like high-quality boats use -- more durable than leather, washable etc. Anyway, my goal is to get the comfort and convienence things (like power adustable seats, lumbar controls, etc.) on both the driver and passenger seats.
