A/C Mode Door Issue
A/C Mode Door Issue
At first, right when i turn on my truck to the Acc position the mode door goes click click click click click and then stopped, but when i switched modes it seemed they weren't working properly. Now, when i turn the key to acc it does the click click click thing and then stops for about 30 seconds and then does it again, then finally stops. It seems the problem is getting progressively worse. Its like the mode control isnt sync'ed with the mode door in the ac box and its binding. Cbrahs told me it probably needs to be put on the computer and reprogeammed, but what would causes it to go ape **** like that?
Also, when i attempt to start my truck sometimes it cranks and cranks, but doesnt seem to want to fire, like its not getting fuel or something. Then i turn the key off and try again and it seems to always start right up. Any thoughts? Sorry for the bad grammar and punctuation. This tablet pisses me off when typing

Here we go again!
You would think Chrysler could figure out how to build a HVAC system by now. And they wonder why no one wants to buy their POS vehicles? If it wasn't for what was under the hood, I would be behind the blue oval right now.

Its the actuator not the blend door itself. The actuator is built with plastic gears inside that strip, I've replaced a few for friends. The click click click you hear is the stripped areas of the gears meeting each other inside the actuator.

All I ask is why is it so hard to make a reliable HVAC system. My '97 F250 used to freeze you out of the cab and was super reliable. Just seems unacceptable these days.

I took it in for that recall and they said my truck didn't have the "bad actuator". How do I know if they were feeding me a line of BS or not? Is there a website that will tell you via your VIN?
I honestly just think they didn't want to mess with it.

Is it still clicking?
I thought the K17 recall was because the control module was commanding the doors for too much travel and stripping the gears at the end of travel. The modules installed to a certain point were the ones needing the recall and just required a reprogram to fix so long as the actuators hadn't already been stripped. I don't think the current actuators use limit switches but instead use some kind of feed back circuit to monitor door position. If the control module loses the position of the door it still may try and drive the door too far. I would think by resetting the control module it would go through a start up test and re-find the door positions. As the module gets power all the time you need to pull the fuse for the module or disconnect the batteries. Not to say that the actuator gears haven't already been stripped.
I did a bit of digging and came up with a "Trucks built through May 22 2010 date for the recall."
