2010 vs 2011
Is there any firm information on the 2011's yet, or just rumor?
I'm trying to decide whether to buy a 2010 or wait another year. Sooner or later I'll have to buy, and I should do it before they get even more complicated. Is there word of any major changes for '11? I'd hate to wait another year and find out I can't get a standard transmission any more, for example. Dodge is the only one that still offers one and that would be almost enough reason to choose Dodge, even without the Cummins. I suppose there are bound to be more electronics and more pollution controls, but how major will the changes be?
Every year I look at the new trucks, decide they're already too complicated, and keep my 1st-gen another year. I've been doing this for 20 years now, but it can't go on for ever. If I can get 20 years out of a new truck, it will be the last one I'll ever have to buy, and that will ease the pain somewhat. I'm just afraid of getting something I can't afford to keep once the warranty expires. I've just about convinced myself I can afford to buy a new truck; I'm just not sure I can afford to own it.

I had the same concern, but went with a 2010 CTD anyway. I did get the extended warranty, for 7yrs 100k miles Chrysler Max Care, it cost me $1600, I think it's $2600 list. Hard to beat it especially with all the VERY EXPENSIVE failure-prone stuff on these vehicles. I've had good experience with manufacture's extended warranty from Chrysler and Toyota in the past. Hope to not need it, but boy, if you have to put a new part in, it sure is good to know it's covered at the $100 deductible.

I don't think the 2011's will be any different than the 2010's... the emission regs aren't changing, the body style is new, the drivetrain is carry over from pre '10...

Problem is, once the 2011's are out, it'll be too late to order a 2010, and that's the only way I'll get what what I want. Everything on the dealers' lots is automatic and has at least $10 000 worth of options I don't want.
Even when I bought the 1st gen, I had to order it to get a stripped truck. Sooner or later, everything fails. The only parts that don't give you trouble are the ones you don't have, and the longer you plan to keep a truck, the more important this becomes. I even (not very seriously) considered a Ford because they're the only ones that still offer an air delete.
Also, I plan on buying a regular cab, long box. When was the last time you saw a regular cab in stock? The dealers tell me they just won't order them for stock. Actually, I'd kind of like a crew cab (except for the cost) but I NEED an 8-foot box and both of them on the same truck gets kind of unwieldy. That combination would be great if I never had to take it to town and park it.

My local dealer has 2 Reg. Cabs on the lot... both are Hemi's.

get it now, you could be dead tomorrow, thats why i bought mine. its worth it, they are beautiful trucks that ride and look like luxury cars, but could be customized to be some bad *** machines. was reaserching around like crazy for months before i bought mine. the only things that i stumbled across was that they were going to try and bump up the hp a little and less emissions

I'll probably wait and see. If I wait too long to order a 2010 and don't like the 2011s, I can always put about a tenth of the cost of a new one into body work on the 1st-gen and have a "new" old truck. I've maintained it to new standards mechanically all along. I just let the body go a bit. (actually, a lot)
Another complication here (Ontario) is that the tax rules change on July 1. After that, I'll be able to get the sales tax back because the truck will be a business expense. Considering the tax rates up here, that's another good reason to wait. I don't know yet whether that means I have to order after July 1, or whether the dealer can date the paperwork as of the delivery date, which means I could order in May.

That's why I'm hanging on to my 01.5 for another couple years. Hoping that a refresh in the '12 MY will make the '10's coming off lease cheaper..... Hoping, that is.....

The only change I've heard about of any significance is the addition of electronic stability control in the 2012 model year trucks. Apparently it's required by the government then and Dodge is waiting till 12 to put it in to keep costs down. Ford and Chevy/GM will have it on their new 11 model trucks.
