I just sold my 06 and purchased a 2012, not apples to apples but I had been shopping for 18 months on new trucks so I can help. If you go to some other Forums you will find some guys post their Fuelly account numbers, not to call anyone out but I don't believe anyone's fairy tale mileage. Too many simply look at the lie o meter, or hit reset while driving at 65 and snap a pic. Real world from guys I trust on the 13+ trucks are 14-17 in city and 17- high teens maybe creep into a 20.x if your cruising all highway.
If you are shopping Kernersville in NC and Dave Smith on the west coast are true volume dealers, that start at invoice and subtract from there while cutting some hold back. The big guys can get you the best number then you can see if the locals can price match.
I drove a few 13-14's and they are nice. Still some teeth cutting with some CEL's but no real drivability issues. I didn't like the 3.42's or the heavy torque management on the 13/14 trucks, also some complain of throttle delay in certain situations. They sure are nice trucks and good luck whatever you decide.
I don't know what took me so long to move to a 4th gen!

Traded my '03 for my '08 with Dave Smith, and I can say it was a huge improvement.

I won't be buying another diesel for a long time .... the prices on new are just ridiculous and I could do a complete rebuild from front to rear for less than a quarter of new, if I really wanted/needed to do it.

Alright guys. After lots of research, kicking tires, discussions, kicking more tires, etc, etc, etc... I ended up getting a 2014 Big Horn Black 4x4 MegaCab. Love the room and the creature comforts and features. I have had it for a little over a week and put 1000 miles on her so far averaging around 17.8 mpg calculated by hand. I leave in the morning for Florida and will be pulling a 6x12 enclosed so will be able to give a more realistic impression of mileage. I have already hauled 22' Triton bass boat and got 15.8 mpg all the while not really knowing it was back there.

One thing that I do already miss. Instant throttle response from the 07 due to the programmer. I know that this will easily be fixed with a tuner in the near future. Got a feeling that there is a lot of power being choked back on this one due to emissions.

Wife and kids love the new truck and are very pleased with the purchase. You know what they say, if momma is happy then everyone is happy.

Congratulations on your new purchase. We sold my 2001.5 to my brother after a two month trip, pulling our 3010RE Big Horn. It was a great truck I was tired of shifting gears all the time and my wife couldn't drive it because the clutch was to stiff. My wife picked the color of our 2014 Laramie 4x4 Crew Cab and we are both very happy so far. Have fun traveling in your new rig!

Congrats I knew you would end up getting one. Black mega cab to boot! Nice.

Personally I wouldn't tune it even if one becomes available.

Put the BD throttle sensitivity booster in it. I have that only on my truck. It gives zero hp but it wakes the truck up. No lag anymore down low. It feels like it gives it 100 more hp. It takes most of the tq management away. Doesnt void your warranty.

I too went from a 2007 (6.7) to a 2014 and not sorry I did. I just got back from a 2000 mile tow trip and was very impressed. Towing mileage varied from 12.5 to 13.5 and empty has been as high as 21 (computer). This is my 4th diesel Ram ('95, '00, '07, '14) and each one saw improvements. The truck tows with authority and is comfortable and quiet. Ram has come up with a great towing machine in my opinion.

Happy to report that I got home yesterday with no major problems on the trip. Logged a total of 3159 miles overall and averages 14.1 mpg hand calculated. I was able to update my Edge CTS to the newest version of software right before I left and able to monitor everything accordingly so I felt comfortable running down the interstate. Overall ride of the truck was extremely pleasant (almost too comfortable at times), my side kick slept most of the way when he wasn't driving. Truck didn't know the trailer was in haul most any of the time. All in all very happy with decision made to upgrade to new truck and loving the room.

BTW, the sweet spot on these is still under 60-65mph but I just couldn't do it. When you look down and you are doing 75mph at 1700 rpm it is hard to believe.

Next pull will be down to Texas with 8x30 enclosed with Camaro inside of it. That will be a good test for the truck.

hey guy, I'm thinking of getting a 2014 6.7 like yours. Just wondering since you've had yours what mods have you done and how's your fuel millage been?

Thanks!
