Most practical Cold Air Intake?

Been out of the loop for a little while, but was just wondering whos making the best most practical cold air intake for the 4th Gen cummins these days? Im having a problem with snow being sucked into the stock air box since I use my truck everyday for work and we have a crap load of snow in Alberta this year Would really like to eliminate that problem before I really fill the airbox up and suck a filter in.

I recommend the LaserSmith intake or the Ice Box intake. Google either one and they have what you need for a 4th gen. I really am not familiar with how they do in snow but they are great with air filtration. You could also install an intake bypass filter that will keep water out of the turbo if you think it is necessary.

Did you ever decide on a cold air intake DieselBoy20? I have the same snow issue here in BC too.

I broke down and ordered an AFE Stage 3 pro dry filter I believe? Was around $300. Not sure I will trust that filter over the BHAF setup I had on my 2007 5.9L and the same setup I have on my '96 12 valve also. They work like a charm with the filter skin. The skin keeps the filter from getting wet if snow gets around the filter. The AFE filter seems thin and pourous to me. I would love to create the BHAF setup for my 6.7L this summer, I think I will try to do just that when I get time.

Can anyone speak to whether or not a closed-lid intake makes a difference?

Stock with the Hope Depot or www.psmdiesel.com mod. You can shorten the downtube a bit to help with water crossings etc.

I did the home depot mod on the air-box on my 05 after I collapsed a filter in snow. I never had another problem after that and my 05 was used heavy in the snow in the north on many a row.....nothing for the wipers not to keep snow off windshield when busting drifts.
The one thing I did not do was glue the down tube into the toilet collar, so I could remove the down tube in the winter. This makes all the difference right there. I use a small self taping screw to hold the tube up into place[ along with the strong friction fit] and a zip tie around the plastic in front of the tube. Works great!
This worked so well on my 05 that the day my 12 came home it was done the same.
There is no need for an aftermarket air-box other than to looks. This mod on my 05 with a factory filter and a smarty would not even load up the filter minder. In stock form without smarty and the air box mod it would trip the filter minder from brand new.
After market air box = complete waste of cash.
