Mini Maxx boost

I recently completed my first trip towing fairly heavy in the mountains since installing the mini maxx and trans tune. The first 2 days I was disappointed, the truck did not perform anywhere as good as last year before deletes and to be honest it was garbage. I have the defuel levels set for 28 psi boost, 1250 egt, 180 deg coolant and I also have the transmission temp set but I forget to what.
While climbing the mountains the truck seemed to have no power at all. After talking with my son who has done way more heavy towing since deleting he suggested I set the boost to 35 psi as the factory limit was 34 psi without deletes. What a difference it's a completely different truck and at 35 psi boost the head gasket should be ok until I can get studs installed. Just wondering what boost others have the defuel set for?

Yeah, boost is best. My 2003 was 25 psi stock, 32 psi with the boost elbow. What a difference that little $2 part made!!

I'm know expert but I just pulled a 20K trailer from the lower 48 up to Alaska (3500 mile ride) with similar mods.....I have the mini maxx and 5" turbo back completed. I didn't mess with any defuel peramiters and my truck was running at 195-205 degrees on coolant the whole time except a couple steep grades were it jumped up to 215 for a moment. As far as boost I never seen higher than 31 psi I think. I don't have my pyro hooked up yet (waiting to get the cooler delete done) so I'm not sure about the EGT....but with the 5" turbo back I wasn't really concerned.

I was going to post an summery of my trip here soon but basically, the truck ran like a dream. Try not thinking into it to much and let the truck do its thing....worked for me.

I just did a short camping trip, about 300 miles pulling my 7,000 lbs tt. The temperature outside was 85 degrees with no wind. The truck ran egt's between 800 and 950 depending if there was a hill. I have the smarty jr., but boost builds very quickly and I kept it up to 25 psi only (using my right foot which was listening to my brain ). I am scared to run it any higher. Don't want to blow the hg or turbo. Not sure of the limits of this truck, but before I deleted I installed the gauges and ran the truck stock to benchmark some of the numbers. I never saw boost higher than 20 psi which is 6 psi less than what my 03 did.

Not sure if 25 psi is pushing it, but it sure runs nice and boost will go to 35 psi at sw1. The fuel economy is fantastic.

I don't run a boost defuel. What mode were you towing on. I've run 43psi a few times with mine. My pyro is set to defuel at 1500 deg's.

I was towing on mild, I only run mild all the time, egt only saw 1098 max and the max boost I saw after moving up from 28psi defuel was 31psi. It was definitely defueling for boost as it would hit 28 easily. I had already taken off the aggressive Turbo tune as it seemed to build boost too quickly even without this trailer. I think I'll try the aggressive TT again. Not sure about the no boost defuel though and what does your egt get to?

Been a few times over 1700 deg's. Typically towing I'm around 1200-1300 deg's on flat ground fighting the wind. I typically tow in mild and once in awhile in hot.

I'm not running head studs, I plan on just retorque'n my stock head bolts up to 135 ft*lbs. We have done a tons of 5.9's up to 145ft*lbs.

Normal operating temp on my truck even running empty is about 203 when the outside temp is around 100 degrees.

My defuel setting are 31 psi boost, 1250 pyro, 220 temp, nothing on the tranny.

my travel trailer weighs between 9k - 11k depending on where we are going...

I have only been beeped at once by the mini maxx and it was on pyro temps as i was trying to pass someone going up a hill,

my concern is my tranny temps, they seem to close to 180-210 when i'm towning.... is this normal?

I want to say no that is not normal but then again I don't ride around in a 100 degree ambient temps....At the highest I seen about 175 in 80 degree ambient average temps. That was pulling up passes with the trailer I spoke of earlier (32ft Pace, enclosed trailer) loaded down.

Yes, retorque the stock bolts to 135-145

I still put my boost defuel on 35 for now.
And timing is on completely stock / lowest setting.

So even on the middle setting (wild i think) it will usually defuel back to mild fairly quickly...

I wanted the lowest power available mainly to save my stock tranny.
I have my 07 for playing / power.

Wow that's high I have my probe in the rear cooler delete plate so it reads #6 but we did the G56 truck in the manifold and it gets similar readings as mine around 1100deg.

Normal operating temp on my truck even running empty is about 203 when the outside temp is around 100 degrees.
Mine also, my 180deg defuel is for cold coolant temp.

my concern is my tranny temps, they seem to close to 180-210 when i'm towning.... is this normal?
I have my trans defuel set to 180 deg and on this last trip going up a steep pass "quickly" it got to 170 deg with OAT @ 75 deg so adding another 25 deg OAT to the 170deg gives 195deg, getting up there but the truck was working.

It's good to "throw around" some numbers but now I'm unsure about a retorque on the existing bolts or head studs. I can appreciate that bolts make removal easier to replace the head gasket if you do blow it but perhaps it wouldn't blow at all with studs. Dilemma

Just towed yesterday. My max trans temp was 153 deg's. Max egt was 1300 ish, max boost was 28 psi. I was towing from flat lands.

My old 02 I would tow upto 50-60psi of boost and peg my 1500 deg pyro often. The motor is still in good shape, and on the original engine.

I've heard the tranny temps will usually run about 100* higher than ambient temperature.

My defuel is careful monitoring of the larger gauge situated on the left area of the dash. When it hits around 3400 I release the skinny pedal. That number usually corresponds to around 1200deg and 50 to 52psi of boost.
