H&S Overdrive issues vs. MCC
Just got my Overdrive tune installed and I'm not real sure I'm happy with it. Everyone seems to rave about the improvements but I'm not sold yet. It does hold the slow speed quick shifts off longer, and I can feel the firmer shifts on 1-2, 2-3, and 5-6 is smooth, but on 3-4 and especially on 4-5 I still get a pronounced "flare" that I thought would go away. I even have the issue on "No power" setting. Is the Overdrive tune still active on the "No power" setting?
Now with the new MCC out, people are saying you can write a custom tune for shift points, line pressures, etc. Did I waste money on the Overdrive tune or do you HAVE to have the Overdrive tune first to even write a custom tune with the MCC program?
Any tips for trying to clear up my flare issue? I've tried re-installing the program (went back to stock so that I could re-enter the unlock code again); and no change.
Thanks,

Gus, I am not sure what "flare" means? Are you talking about surge or shudder??
My Overdrive tune works flawlessly and has since the day I installed it. Even with all my mods, that baby shifted hard and quick each time.
Have you called H&S, explained your issue, and taken their advice?

N2D, The "flare" I'm getting is like when there is tranny slippage (but the RPMs don't move). I guess you could call it a surge, but it's more like hanging up before it kicks up to the next gear with a hard, but uncrisp shift. Kinda hard to explain, but it's not just a hard shift. There seems to be too much lag time between the 4-5. It's mostly during city driving under lighter throttle, cause if there's room to mash it, it's much less pronounced.
Anyone know about the MCC tunes?

Update: I am now noticing a slight change (up surge) of rpm on the 4-5 shift; around 50/100 rpms. Is a certain amount of slippage or rpm jump between shifts normal with the 68? I've always thought any slip was bad, but it is doing this on the "No Power" setting (H&S w/Overdrive tune), and just on the 4-5. I ran the programmer a few weeks without the Overdrive, but never hammered on it at all. Getting pretty annoying now.
You should try towing with the H&S overdrive and e/b, tow/haul engaged. My truck will run the engine 3500 rpm's during eb braking.
I turn off my tow/haul mode, cause I'm not a fan of running my engine that hard during lite braking events. Any body else have this issue.

Of course, I'm also waiting on PacBrake to email back about their new LoadLeash brake for the 6.7L trucks.

With the H&S and O/D tune I also notice this sloppy shift as well between 5-6 shifts and possibly 4-5. While shift is in progress, it almost feels soft and it hangs to long before the engagement of the next gear. It is extremely annoying to me also and feels bad. No slippage is good slippage IMO
I was also wondering another thing, I noticed with my 08 and the O/D tune that there are significantly better tranny options with the H&S than there is with the 10-12 tranny options. The options I mean are in regards to shift points and line pressures etc, why don't the 10-12 trucks get the same options, same transmissions? I feel like the 08 O/D tune works much better than my 12's O/D tune.

Anybody else notice a hard shift (push) on the 5-6th shift with more than 50% throttle (30psi of boost)? Its seems to quite noticeable during passing vehicles. Its shifts similar to my DTT race trans in my 02 truck going from 4th to OD lock-up. Its more during towing as well.
I'm curious as this just an OD tuning thingy or my transmission having power capacity issues. I've done two fluid changes and filter changes with no clutch material or metal debris in the pan, yet.
During cold start-ups, going into reverse the converter seems to 'lock-up' for first 2-3 seconds. I can almost stall the truck out just going into reverse, then it rev's free and fine. I can't hold/stop the truck from moving, even with full hard-on brake pedal.
I'm running stock mopar atf +4, mopar filters and a magtec deep pan.
Thanks guys.

I have to confess that I was kind of disappointed with Overdrive as well. I've noticed that the shifts are a little more crisp but I thought it would change the shift points as well. If it does then I haven't noticed. My hope is that Overdive is doing more "behind the scenes" work than I realize and that it's helping preserve my tranny. I don't really notice a significant difference though.
