Deleting in PA

I stopped at my trusted dealer last week to have one of their mechanics (that I also trust) give my new to me truck the once over. We got to talking about deleting, Air Dog fuel filtration, just all kinds of things that will void my engine warranty.. Now as we all know, in PA (right now,) diesels are exempt from emissions testing. The word I heard, however, is that PennDot is considering scrapping the emissions testing altogether--seems its very expensive to administer and there really aren't enough vehicles failing the test to make it worthwhile. At first glance, this would seem to get a "yee-ha" from anyone who wants to mod their exhaust system for better performance and/or economy (like us.) The problem is, if they do this, the "emission test" will then become part of our annual safety inspection--as in, all original parts must be present on the vehicle. Not that they have to be in working order, they just have to be present. If this goes through, anyone who has already deleted their DPF, EGR system and other exhaust components will no longer pass inspection, thus rendering your truck undriveable on any Communistwealth of PA roads. I hope to hell this isn't true, but it sure sounds like the smack-*** crap that PennDot has been pulling on us for years. If anyone has any further insight or a source within PennDot, please ask them and post up. Thanks, sorry to be the bearer of potential bad news.

Sounds like stealth deletes are in your future, too! Hollow DPF and most of the tuners disable the EGR in place, so that's where I'm heading. Smarty may mess with your warranty, but I was able to pass CA smog on my 2001 with the 1/2 power program installed. Not sure how the DPF monitors will appear with a modded DPF, but I bet we find out pretty soon...

Guess what. The smog check is already part of your annual safety inspection. Just depends on what county you are as to how in depth it goes. All counties require a visual check that the parts are all there.

Never thought of that. I guess the stealth deletes and the hollow DPF are in my future. Anyone have any suggestions on the hollow DPF--do you take it off, ream it out, put it back on and disconnect it, or is there a product out there already made to do this? Thanks!

Seems like the most common option is a 3"-4" hole reamed thru the guts of the DPF so it flows, but also leave enough material so it doesn't sound hollow if you bang on it. I'm keeping my stock unit for emissions testing, but if I can find a few local guys we can share one pipe.

Guess it depends on where you get your inspections completed...my local garage really doesn't care apparently because they didn't say a word about my deleted 6.4L Ford. Getting a free lifetime at the dealer wouldn't be so lucky.

It's still a federal law your breaking. I would at least keep the items you take off incase you end up needing them.

take a 3" planator bit (commen in the plumbing industry) just in case you haven't heard if one. You will also need a 12 " extension . You will need a 1/2 inch drill. One with good tourque.remove from truck and dissasemble the nox and dpf filters at the triangle flange. They will both need gutted ! Drill from both ends of each to reach the middle. The filter meada is fairly soft wear a mask as i believe it's probbly a carcenagen the bit passes through easly makes a nice clean professional 3 " hole right down the middle.just remember to start as straight as possable knowing you also have to meet in the middle from both ends.
Only trick is a hole saw won't work it has to be a planator bit.

Also please remember your gutting a very expensive piece of equipment . I recomend shopping around for a already plugged up one as i did just in case the states turn into bigger buttheads !!!
