On Board Nav system

Just a quick question about the nav system in the new truck... How are they updated? I have a hand held Garmin that I can hook to my laptop and update to show new trails and new roads that have been built but what about the nav system in the trucks? Are they updated automatically?
Thanks.

Nope. Unfortunately you got to get the update from the dealer or NAVTEQ. The cost is around $200. We need to get a hold of those groups that make free detailed maps available for Garmin's to see is they could do the same for our radios. Quite frankly the maps are subpar and it would be nice to get maps that include more than just main roads. When I say free, I dont mean pirated and reverse engineered. They utilize the same map source provided by the USGS and compile it for use on Garmins

Thanks, I was hoping with all this techno stuff in these trucks now days they would give you the ability to log into a Ram site with your computer and down load an update into the computer then into the truck. Guess that would be to easy.

Am I missing something here? I have a 2010 Nav system put out by Navteq and it cost me 149 last spring to upgrade. I understand that beginning with the 2011 models the systems were from Garmin and it was free to upgrade. Am I wrong?

I forgot, I put in a 2012 model RHR radio. The last time I checked, I thought I saw $199 for that radio and $149 for the RER radios that came w/the 2010s. The Garmin radios have a different code. I am not certain, but I don't see why the Garmin radios would get free updates unless certain radios come w/lifetime map updates similar to some of Garmin's street units like the one my wife uses. I think the maps are $99 for units without the lifetime map updates.

I meant to include "street" for units without lifetime map updates so as not to confuse it with the radio version.
