Too hot, on automatic transmissions you never want to get too hot or keep it hot for too long. Heat destroys them, burns clutchs and can warp the clutch drums and clutch steels. Basically the equivalent to burning a clutch on a manual trans. Ive rebuilt many automatics and dealt with some very informative transmission shops, basically the cooler you keep your tranny fluid the better. I used to run two trans coolers in front of my radiator(only cause i had two small ones instead of one big one) and my tranny never got over 110* in the winter and hardly hit 150* in the summer even when pulling. Some said not letting my fluid reach a certin temp wasnt good... blah blah blah.. i was pushing 500+rwhp and never had an issue with my tranny running "too cold"

Id suggest a deep trans pan and an extra trans cooler.

PS i also never ran my tranny fluid through the motors cooling system, doing so will bring your tranny temp up to 180-190*(motor temp).

I agree, too hot!!

I would recommend the deep pan but also you can install electric fans on the cooler and relocate it if you want to spend the money.

220* max, unless it was just for a second. Usually you want to pull over at 200* and let it idle in neutral for a couple of minutes. That said, I towed 11k lbs up some pretty steep stuff (8%) in warmish weather (85*) and never got above 180*.

If your fluid is burnt (brown and stinky) I'd replace it. Might as well change the filter too while you're at it.

yeah way too hot. I haul a 40' gooseneck loaded all day from Houston to wherever in the US and only see 189 to 190 ish during summer months with temps of 100+ You might want to lock out 6th gear ive found that running in 5th at 65/70 mph will give you the same mpg as 6th and seems to be easier on the truck. the harder you drive the hotter it will get. also check you cooler/radiators if you live in a dusty place the could be partially blocked or full of bugs??
