Time Based Maintenance

Seven years ago, I bought my 2010 Dodge 3500. Now, it has around 15,000 (yes, fifteen thousand) miles. I have had the dealer change the oil/filter every 6 months, as that is what the schedule calls for if not based on mileage. About 14,000 miles has been towing an RV, up to the truck's GVWR.

Before our June 1200 mile trip I will change the oil again, and want to cover anything else needed due to the 7 year passed time. I am thinking replacing transmission fluid, differential fluid and maybe coolant.

Yes? No? What else?

14 oil changes in 15 thousand miles is kind of often, that's an oil change every 1072 miles....unbelievable ! new tires every 5000 miles?

Brake fluid and Power steering fluid often get missed. I would also start adding a fuel additive to protect against algae growth as you are probably not turning the fuel over quick enough. If you do the trans fluid and two filters get an aluminum finned pan WITH A DRAIN PLUG you can thank me later.

Well, here's my reasoning-I don't trust the dealer or the manufacturer warranty to be honored if I don't meet the required maintenance. Regarding oil, it calls for 6 months or (whatever) mileage.....whatever comes first. And, as I bought an extended warranty, the same issue still applies, for now.

In fact, I did replace the truck tires in October, 2015, before I started with a new RV and the extra 1,000+ lbs. on the truck bed. The tires on the old RV started shredding due to the heat (Arizona), one of which was never on the ground. The Dodge tires were the same age. I learned the lesson of relying on tire mileage rather than age as well with another truck.

Good idea.....it's going to be an expensive service at the dealer.
