Also , my buddy just did a delete in his truck ....the same one that I am doing. Its pretty dang loud . It will be kinda cool for a couple weeks but..... I want to stay under the radar .... I live in Calif ... so yunno...keep the enviros off of my back... Plus , I like to sneak up pretty quiet to my hunting spots . This kit sounds kind of teen ager like , I want to go old man. Any suggestions about a muffler that sounds better ? Not total stock but something that doesn't echo up the canyons ? I could hear my friends (stock) muffler a half mile up the road.

My son is the hunter and gun collector and he's staying at the family farm over the winter to look after things there so I suspect he'll be hunting lots, we also allow 2 other people to hunt there.

On both my son's and my 2011 trucks we left the factory down pipe in and used the stock muffler this set up is fairly quiet. I live in a residential area and my 2011 deleted is nowhere near as noisy as my 2001 stock truck was. The 2013 and up trucks have a different exhaust and was very noisy, after we deleted my son's 2013 it was just too loud so we added a MBRP muffler but it's still too loud, we should have used a glass filled Flow Pro muffler as Flow Pro suggested but it would have to be ordered so I went with the mbrp one.. mistake. To install a muffler on the 2013 and up it takes most of the delete pipe so it's a waste of time and money to buy a delete pipe when just a muffler and a short piece of straight pipe would do. I believe H&S no longer makes or sells tuners.

Did most of the delete yesterday , at least what I consider the hard part. The exhaust .

I would like to begin by saying thank you to the guys that answered questions for me.
I would also like to thank Blake Clark for his write up . After re-reading it , it answered a couple of my questions. The main one being ......can I install the exhaust and tuner and wait to install the EGR delete later ... or would the tuner need further programing .
What he said made total sense. He said that the tuner basically sends a ZERO signal to the EGR components. So basically it does not even acknowlege its existence once installed.
So Yesterday I installed the pipes and tuner. I had no help , I would recommend a second set of hands.
Right off the bat I encountered something that the prior owner had mentioned to me and I forgot. I bought the truck with 20k miles from a private party. The prior owner said that he had the "CAt Converter studs tack welded so that it would never be stolen by a tweeker for its recycle value. Well...... it wasn't the cat that was welded, it was the studs on the DPF. I spent a fair amount of time on my back trying to carefully grind the welds away. Its pretty tight in there with a grinder. 5 of six bolts went fine , the last one stripped before it was all of the way off. I cut the stud on this one. When I moved on to the short section of pipe just before the muffler ....lo and behold .... there was about a 2 inch weld on each of the two joints there. So the careful grinding added some "special joy" to the project. All else went pretty well. On each of the electrical plugs and pressure taps , I used electrical splicing tape. This stuff is nice and stretchy and adheres well. It lasts much longer than electrical tape too. It should keep everything sanitary just in case I ever have to re-install all of this *rap.
It took about 20 minutes for the programmer to do the download. It sure was nice to read the screen when it said " ok , now start the truck " !! I was jazzed, that meant that I probably did everything right. I also added the Transmission tune to the tuner.
I let her warm up , set it on the "tow" mode , one notch over the stock mode. I ran out to the two lane road and gave it a little romp .
WOW !!!! Completely different truck ! I am very happy with this install. As far as it being too loud ? It is definitely not as loud as my friends 2008 with his delete installed.
Mine doesn't sound stock but it also doesn't echo up and down the canyon which is nice. The exhaust brake sounds pretty nifty now too.
The trans responds much better now with distinct and firmer (but not hard) shifts.
There are 5 settings for this . I have mine set to the default which is right in the middle.
I will probably do the EGR delete next weekend. I think it will be easier than being on my back under the truck . I have 3 vertebrae screwed together in there and it gets pretty sore. I hope that I didn't snap any of those screws or cause them to back out ; ) Kinda sore this morning , but its a good sore because I got something very good done.
Thanks again all. I don't come here often but when I do , there is always a helping hand . You guys are the best .
