Perform Service.

Just before 64500 miles I get the perform service message. Did some checking and evidently this is either predetermined mileage error for the emissions crap and possibly there is a senor on the CCVF to tell me it is "dirty". I also have read it is recommended to clean the EGR at this time. Can anyone confirm if this trips near this specific mileage so you can give the dealer some money for some snake oil to keep them in business, there is an actual sensor on the CCVF and if there is actually any sensing done to see if the EGR is getting clogged? I don't see any senors on the EGR but haven't torn the cover off to check the CCVF yet either.

Yes, the CCV needs to be replaced at 65K IIRC (it does have a sensor). Many say to replace the CCV at 35K to prevent higher crank case pressure pushing oil through the seals.

The "Perform Service" indicator is specified by mileage at 67,500 intervals. Kinda odd that yours illuminated 3,000 miles early. Mine went off at 67,411 for the first interval, and 136,709 the second time.

Grab a Fleetguard # CV52001 and swap it out. That's all that's required, short of re-setting the "Perform Service" light.

There's NO scheduled EGR valve or EGR cooler cleaning due on the 2013 & up DEF pickups....only on the 2007.5 through 2012 pickups.

If you'd like the re-set procedure, let me know.

Thank you both for the info. I very much appreciate it. The truck had been all over the US before I became its owner so maybe the CCV sensor sees a problems causing the light to come on early. We were on Vacation so I wasn't about to pay dealer prices. Truck has almost 70k on it now. I will get it replaced when I do the oil change shortly. Thanks for the part number. If you wouldn't mind send me the reset procedure in PM that would great.

PERFORM SERVICE INDICATOR - RESET
Unless reset the “Perform Service” message will display on the EVIC each time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position to indicate a emission maintenance is required. To reset the “Perform Service” indicator system (after performing the scheduled maintenance) refer to the following procedure:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not start engine).
2. Press and release the brake pedal two times.
3. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly two times within 10 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.
NOTE: If the indicator message illumination when you start the vehicle, the “Perform Service” indicator did not reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.

I went to replace the filter then discovered that it vents it into the turbo. Turbo covered in oil. The only sensor I found was on the vent tube. Not sure if it looks for vacuum or flow sensor. Gutted old filter houseing to prevent a leak. By passed the intake tube inlet and vented to below the axle with 3/4" ID heater hose. I can't believe they think it is a good idea to put the vent tube right infront of the turbo with out any type of oil seperator or require replacement at that long of interval. Recommendation if you don't do the by-pass then change the CCVF every 30K and inspect at every oil change. Now I wait to see if a CEL and just how gummed up my Intercooler is. Turbo cleaned up well enough I hope.
