How does the Aisin tranny drive in a 3500

I just orded a 2013 3500 megacab. I added the aisin tranny to the order but the only thing they had on the lot with it was a 5500 chasis cab with 4.88 gears. I did not like the way it drove as much as the 3500 with 68RFE but it was kind of an apples vs oranges comparison.

My thought with the Aisin is I am going up 8" and running 38's and it might tolerage that better with its 3.73 first gear vs 3.23 first in the 68RFE since 3.42's are you only option in a non-dually.

The main question I have is how does the Aisen drive in a 3500 with 3.42 gears. the shifting in the chasis cab felt a tad slugish but they may run different sofware and everyting.

I'm not sure if you will get many replies, the Aisin was not available in the 2500 and for some reason the 3500 pickup's were very late being made, my son ordered a 3500 CC 4X4 SRW SB pickup in January and was recently told it will be here on the 17th June, that remains to be seen.

Okay I did not realize they were released later. Whithnel in Salem has one maybe I will go test drive it. I like the idea of 385 850 stock and a more robust tranny but would like to drive one.

There is 2k more cash on the 2500 so it is $4500 more I want to make sure I like the way it drives

I was on the dodge site the other week and was checking prices, I notice that the 3500 SRW pickup when ordered with the Aisin comes with 3.42 gears and 18 inch wheels, I was able to change the gear ratios but it then changed the wheel size to 17 inch the same occurred when a dually was selected. So it seems you only get the 18 inch wheels in a SRW with 3.42 gears.

We could not change away from 3.42 without adding the dually option. The aisin has a 3.73 first as opposed to the 3.23 though so that is another reason I want it since I can't order lower gears to ofset the tire size.

You might want to recheck the gear options now, I believe it did only have the one 3.42 option to begin with but like I said a couple of weeks ago I was able to change the axel ratios in a SRW.

This was yesterday right in the system. I was in the sales managers office. Every time we checked a gear ratio like 4.10 or 3.73 it made the dually option required. Unless there is a trick in the order entry software he did not know.

My local dealer is getting one in next week. It has a 3.42 though. The 3500 SRW's look great. The rim and tire combo looks goos. They are coming with a new wheel to wheel need bar. I really like them.

I went back to the site and it's changed, like you say there is now the only option of 3.42's again but there is also more wheel options than a couple of weeks ago but the 17 inch wheels are gone altogether. I also notice that when choosing the Aisin "package" that part has also changed from before.

I wouldn't be so concerned with a trailer full of horses.... you'd have 4-6 HP to help tow you home ;-)

I had a 3500 SRW with Aisin. It had 3.42. Shifting was fine. It drove great and pulled 12k horse trailer great as well.
