Disappointing fuel economy on 2011

Horribly disappointed in the fuel economy of my new to me 2011 3500.
I new it would worse than my 04 2500 but would never have thought it would be worse empty the the 04 hooked to a 13,000 lb goose neck.

I'm only getting 17mpg on most of the 2011's. I road test on the average around 20 of these trucks per week. Even with new O2 sensors and latest flash 18 mpg was the best I've seen. 2013 and 2014's are doing much better with fewer REGENS with the DEF system, seeing 20 mpg and better.

Only problem is what you save in fuel you pay in urea fluid

Exactly, and then you have DEF components that will eventually need to be serviced. I have seen DEF injector and pump go bad within 100k miles. Still under warranty. If you run out of DEF fluid you run into a no start problem. DEF fluid degrades fast in high temps also.

Hey If anyone has solutions on how to improve fuel economy on this let me know. Mine is a 2011 no Urea Fluid. Currently stock. Looking for any kits I can remove my emmissions stuff now I'm not under warranty.
Want to be able to go economy all the way.

Being you live up North I might suggest you first read this thread, there is almost everything you need to know in there. Then after you know what you need call some of the diesel truck parts stores in Canada, last night I was looking for air bags for my 2011 3500 and came across many items listed on some of the web sites. One of the mistakes people made was getting too low a gear in the axles because it was recommended by the dealer then what does Dodge do but make the 3.42 the only gear you can get with the Aisin and SRW. 3.73's are bad enough but 4.10 will never get a decent fuel economy. I suggest you also get the H&S transmission tuning which would mean going with a H&S product. I might also suggest you recheck the oil that was used in your 68RFE especially since you operate in a cold climate, adding a larger aftermarket pan it dropped the transmission oil temps about 12 deg. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...t-t278158.html

Urea is 2.79 gallon in my neck of the woods

I am averaging around 900 MPG

So it costs like $31 for 10,000 miles

Which is less then 10 gallons of diesel here.

So its roughly equivalent to getting .25-.3 MPG worse.

Since I average around 17 mpg, if you factor in urea cost its really like getting 16.75 MPG

Just doing the math

Put a cam in. Buddy just did that on his 10. His milage and power went up. Not cheap but it should pay for itself.

Hmmmm 18 mpg on a 4th gen...lol lol lol not if it's a 4x4 3500 dually.....if you can get 13 mpg you got a tailwind....only good thing is it don't drop much when I drop the 5th wheel on it ...goes to 10 mpg unless there is wind....The rears don't make a whole lot of difference either....the 3.42 rear is probably the same as the old 3.73 once you factor in the new trannys with the additional gears..

Here is my Fuelly for a 6 speed truck

Pleiadian (Ram 3500) | Fuelly

would you consider deleting the DPF and running a tuner?

My hand calculated milage on my 15 dually is about 15 with only 2 thousand miles on it. I get 14.5 to 15 around town which is about 90% of my driving. I get between 18 and 19 on the highway.

I've averaged 20.1 (hand calculated, 20.4 on the EVIC) in the year I've owned my '14. Just shy of 11,000 miles. I received truck with 3/4 tank of DEF and to date I've spent $15.35 in DEF at the pump.
The only way you can say that DEF is costing me my fuel savings over a non-DEF Cummins 6.7 is if you went to the Obama administration school of math...
