block heater

Does it hurt to leave plugged in over several days even if temp get above 40. Sometime Iam gone and not able to unplug after temp outside warms up.

I don't see why it would hurt... It's not like the motor temps going to jump over 200 deg, with the block heater, just because the outside temp went to 60 or even 70 deg.

Get yourself a block heater timer will save you money on electric bill. Sears sells them, good stocking stuffer.

I use a cheap timer from home depot for christmas lights! You can probably find something that'll work right here too...

works perfect and you can have it come on at say, 4am and by 9am it's ready to fire up easily. Some of us have to get up at 4 or 5 to leave for work so I have mine come on at midnight and when I leave I unplug it. Awesome to have the heater working when you first get in the truck on a cold frosty morning.

Shouldn't hurt to leave it plugged in.

On another note, I don't mean to jack your thread but does anyone's block heater actually work that well? My truck plugged in all night, out of the wind at -20 and it still shakes and groans when I start it in the morning. -35 is the coldest ive seen this year so far and it wasn't happy about starting even with 3 grid heater cycles. My 07 used to fire right up and blow half warm air. It's definitely working, just seems like its not hot enough.

The only thing it'll hurt is your power bill- 1100 watts gets a little spendy. Like others said, get a timer, or a remote (that's what I use).

Mine turns over and starts like summer when plugged in. Anything colder than -30 and everything is stiff but the motor starts great.

Could buy an espar cooler heater system, way better coolant heater system. You truck would never have a need for grid heaters again. During extreme cold snaps, you might need to heat pad's for the oil pan and batteries.

Isn't winter fun. I typically leave my 02 running during the really cold stuff.
