Bad turbo

I am trying to get some advice on turbo options out there for the 6.7 cummins. My father has a 2008 Ram 5500 that we use every day to tow. Some times we get close to 40,000 pounds gross weight. Right now we are having trouble with the exhaust brake not working right. A local certified mechanic told us that the turbo was not working properly and should be replaced. It would seem that there are not a lot of options out there for the 6.7 VGT . Any one else have a turbo replaced? Did you go stock? What was the price ?
Thanks for the help

The turbo doesn't work right because it gets sooted up and the variable vanes can no longer move....Always run with the exhaust brake on to keep those vanes moving so the soot can not build up around them.

Thank you for the reply. We do run with the exhaust brake on all the time. I am shocked that the turbo is gummed up. This vehicle sees heavy loads way more than it is empty. It also only has about 52,000 miles on it. The mechanic we took it too told us the same thing that you have about soot causing it not to work right. Mechanic frowned when we asked if it could simply be cleaned. Have you ever had this done? Thank you
