Fuel pump failed and sent metal through entire fuel system. Dodge “guarantees” that no metal particles passed through the injectors into cylinders or into turbo. Dodge directed a complete fuel system replacement, catch is no parts for at least 2 months. Dodge is currently refusing to replace the long block which is in stock. I am being told that the fuel pump supplier is the same one used by GM and is having many failures. Right now I am screwed. Also sounds like the fuel pumps are a known issue.
Just got off the phone with Customer Care. According to the them they are not technical and will not discuss that. They will not explain why no metal can get in the engine and said the dealership has to do that. The dealership is calling the dodge tech back to see if he will provide more information. Customer Care was very clear if the Dodge corporate tech will not provide more information or doesn’t clarify there is no way to escalate that further. More to follow.
Boggles my mind that no dealership staff has offered any information along the lines of a buy back or lemon law process. In 31 or 32 days.....you will be Scott-free.
Time to review the process based on your state of residency.
The service department discussed it after I brought it up today. They indicated that they would not be involved in that process, it would be through corporate.
Matt, that's great to hear. Thanks for the update. That there is good news, and an example of a good dealership wanting to build a relationship with its customer and maintain reputation. Not many like that nowadays in my experience. Personally, I used Dave Smith, and they pretty much left me in the dust once I drove it off the lot... Got a good deal on the truck though. Pro's and con's I suppose.
I have a doa 2500 with 7700 miles on it that’s been sitting for 2 weeks at work. Really pretty glitter in the FCA bore. I “hear” there’s a CP3 retro fit kit in the works.
I actually stopped in here to see how many others had experienced this (haven’t posted in years). I knew as soon as we tried to order parts, and we weren’t allowed and had to consult FCA, that something stinky was up. Sounds like Bosch really stepped in the doggy doo this time.
Had four trucks with failed cp4 within 3 months. 3200 to 30k miles.... haven’t seen one since sept 2020. Now if the pos eco diesels would quit crapping their pants
Just did two more complete fuel system replacements…. A 19 with 32k miles and a 21 with 7k miles that was born with the “newer” symmetrical pump. Guess that wasn’t “the fix”.
Up to 9 fuel systems now….. recall is out, but no parts nor have I heard what they’re doing. At this point it’d be a hard pass for me to purchase one of these 19-20 pickups. Of course 21 they went back to the cp3.
Thanks for the info Jay! I'm considering getting rid of my very low mile 2019. Apparently I'm 153 on the wait list for the recall and they can only do 1 per week.
I sold my truck yesterday. 2019 (I bought in 2020 new), and sold it with 13,000 miles. Loved the truck and hated to sell it. I haven't felt comfortable taking it anywhere since the recall, so it just sat in the garage. I'll start looking for something new if/when my work wants us back in the office. I haven't done much racing in the last year which is why I had my Cummins. I might go gas next.
