2011, First 100 miles..not a good sign

Well, after months of research and debate I bought a new 2011 CrewCab ST 4x4 Cummins night before last. I got a white one with the preferred option package. I'm not new to Dodge diesels, this is my third. First 6.7L though. On the way home from the dealership the check engine light came on with 38 miles on the clock. Next, it snowed 2 ft yesterday and I needed the 4 wheel drive. One of the primary reasons I bought the ST, besides the 5 grand difference, was the floor shift transfercase. So, I pull it down in 4 high and it pops right out. Long story short, it will not stay in 4 wheel drive. Last time I had a xfer case do this it was in my old 1994 and had 360k miles on it.

I'm sure it its an adjustment, and the light is nothing major, just disheartening to be in this situation with 100 miles on it.

Also, I realize it's brand new, but so far its averaging 11 miles to the gallon. I've heard that it improves. Thoughts on that? I guess maybe it has something to do with the check engine light possibly.

Positives are I really like the ride and the 6 speed auto. The 6.7 is quiet and fairly powerful. I ran the Juice on my 05 with some other mods so it would run circles around this new truck. But again, I'm not sure its even running right because of this light being on. My 05 was quite responsive from a stop, this truck seems sluggish, like the turbo is lagging. Dunno, I'm taking it in tomorrow to have them scan this code and look that this xfer case. heh. I also educated them on the fact that they could easily add RKE to this truck. They are going to do that as well.

Anyway, Thanks for letting me vent! First post on this forum.

i had the same issues with mine in the beginning. check engine on and the truck would hardly move. i kept turning it off then on and then let it sit for a couple hours and it went away. after 2 days it happened again, finally got it moving after an hour of messin with it. i "angrily" took it off road and beat the heck out of it and i havent had any problems since. i had the same feelings as you with it being weak and feeling like its not performing, until i ripped all the filters out of the exhaust and put an h&s min max in it. HOLY CRAP, you would not beleive how this truck moves and performs right now. im finally happy that i bought a new diesel

Yeah, I'm sure I will end up deleting. My first concern would be be voiding my warranty on a new truck. Isn't that a bit scary? A friend dropped a few injectors on his 07 and it was over 3300 bucks, for a fuel rail and 6 injectors. The truck only had 39k miles on it. Warranty covered it. It's just scary to void out that protection. I assume dealers would love to punch a vin as soon as they see a filter delete roll in. Although I had my 05 chipped and a few other mods, they never cared. Although, it never really broke. What's your thoughts?

save everything so you could reinstall in case of major malfunction. i pulled the exhaust out nice and easy and made sure nothing got damaged so it goes back together without any problems. ill tell you, its so worth it seeing how much better my truckis running now. no hesitation, touch the pedal with ease and it accelerates like its a sports car, the fuel consumption is down a good amount too. i have been keeping the tuner on zero-mild and its amazing. i have 10,000 miles on my truck and you wouldnt beleive what the insides of the exhaust filters looked like, totally suffocating our trucks

Rusty0007 -

I just picked up my 2011 3500 ST two days ago, just rolled over 100 miles today. Had to use 4 wheel drive to get out of the driveway the morening after I picked it up and had zero issues. Make sure they make it right for you.

I noticed I had a rattle in my dash, hopefully that is my only issue and I can get it taken care of.

Man, I have a 2011 and just hit 6000 miles. Performed the full delete at about 3000. Prior to taking the vehicle in make sure you annotate the build date on the transfer case. That way, if they tell you that they replaced it, you can easily check to confirm.

Again, sorry

Just wanted to let everyone know the check engine light was just a O2 sensor that was bad from the factory. The manual xfer lever was out of adjustment, they tweaked it as much as they could at that time and it's better but will still pop out. They want to see it in the shop again to play with it some more. Other than that I'm really liking the truck so far. Just curious, what kind of fuel economy did you see the first 1000 miles or so? I expect it to be low, but this truck is sitting at 12.7 MPGs, mixed town and highway. Seems pretty low even for being brand new. Thoughts? My last truck was a 2005 5.9L, it got about 16 or so right off the lot and just picked up about 1 to 2 MPGS after 'break in'. Cruise set at 65 and unloaded it might have got 20 with a tailwind. Anyway, just wondering what your gen 4's got when they were new. Thanks.

1400 miles on my new '10 with 15.2 on the computer. Glad to hear it was just some minor unrelated issues. Must have been something in the tortillas that day.

I bought a 2011 mega and had a check engine lite on the test drive bought it anyway and did deletes before I had 300 miles on it. We love the truck but I guess if I need warranty work it could be a problem.
