2011 2500 wont shift out of park

I have a 2011 2500, just bought it, has 80k miles on it. It has a real hard time shifting out of park.. took it to the dealership and they installed a bracket with a hole in it, and said when it is having that problem, to insert a screwdriver through the hole. what kind of a fix is this!! they claim it was a factory fix from Dodge. Problem is, I have to use the screwdriver almost every time now. Any suggestions?

I'm not 100% sure on the 3500 as mine is a manual trans but my 2011 half ton had a solenoid that would move a pin out of the shifter path when you put your foot on the brake. It made an audible click when it moved and wouldn't let you shift out of park without pressing the pedal. There was a small hole beside the shifter and the owners manual stated the same thing if you needed to shift it with a dead battery or not running to insert something in the slot. Perhaps the solenoid is on its way out or already shot in yours?

was there any codes set? that would be first thing to check, if code p0928 is set follow diagnostics below. Most likely shifter asy. needs to be replaced but could also be brake switch or wiring issue. Take it back to dealership tell them you want level 3 tech capable of diagnosing your problem. Print out diagnostics and tell them you will be in the waiting room. That always gets the ball rolling faster.
