new homeland security fee for duallys???
a friend of mine just received a fee for $75 from the homeland security. It is supposed to go out to people who own dually trucks. it supposedly is for inspections due to size. his truck is a ford 3500. has anyone else had to pay this fee or is he being scammed? thanks for any info. I'm very curious as i own 2 duallys.

Tell him to call HS and ask about it.
HS has a Hoax website and i'm sure they would like to hear about this truck registration fee stuff.

its BS plain and simple. inspections are done by DOT not HS. fees are paid by registration (if he is commercial) and fines are paid to DOT at the scales if he fails an inspection (again if he is commercial) and if he is Commercial, he has road tax for mileage driven in each state and IFTA (interstate fuel tax). tell him to contact HS and report the scam if its not already on their site.

i worked with him today, it came with his registration renewal or excise. he wasn't sure as his father does that side of the business. supp a few other contractors in our area have gotten this also. i have yet to get one or know of anyone else that got this. as for the road tax/ifta does this apply to 3500 trucks? i didnt think this was in play till 26K. thanks for replies.

I never heard of THAT one.
I've been driving my dually since '99.
Could it be a local thing?
Maybe the government wants to know where all the RELIABLE trucks are located when the doo-doo hits the fan and all their Fords and Chevys break down......

IFTA/ROAD tax only applies if the rig is registered as comercial and you are hauling cross country

cbrahs thanks for the clarification.
When he told me about this i didnt believe him but his father asked me if I got mine. That is why I ask you guys about it. I wonder if it is local. I'll keep you posted.

Don't know who the fee is paid to, and what it for sure is, but $75 sounds about right for someone who has applied for a haz-mat endorsement on their CDL for the background check. It also could be for a WIX card, also for a background check to get into some of the ports. The company I work for does not do any haz-mat work, and I don't have a WIX card so I don't know the fees involved in getting them. That could be what this is about.

I think you mean a TWIC card. Transportation Worker Identification Credential. I had to get one a few years ago. When I got mine it was $ 132.50 and lasts for 5 years then another 132.50.

You are right, TWIC card. I never could spell, and like I said I don't have one so I know nothing about it. I think a WIC card is a welfare card of some kind, something I also know nothing about.
