According to some of the articles I have read, the merge will probably not result in the loss of channels on either service. Programming is projected to remain the same, at least short term. Their satellites operate on entirely different frequencies so they couldn't mothball one set of satellites without automatically obsoleting all the radios built to receive that service. Rather, this would be a "combining synergies" operation -no doubt resulting in the loss of jobs - but reducing overhead by a goodly amount by halving the bureaucracy it takes to run such an organization. The upside to the merger taking place will be that shortly after it is complete new receivers will be coming out that will have the ability to receive both services. One radio that will pick up both Sirius and XM programming - think of the selection! Just for sports fans alone - the NFL, NASCAR, MLB, etc. And so many more music channels to surf! I will be one of the first to have one of those new receivers if the proposed merger does come to pass - as long as they don't get greedy about the subscription price. Competition always keeps price down - and there will be no competition.
