Filter should not effect mileage. If it starts to clog it will cause a loss of power. Manual says to change every 15K miles.

I do mine every 7000 miles along with oil change and cleaning the air cleaner. It's cheap insurance

Same here. Change fuel filter every 7.5-8K when I change out the oil & oil filter
Air filter every 10K....now that will affect mileage

....which means you have to use more go pedal to compensate, thus getting poor mpgs, right?

Just like an air filter, I believe changing the fuel filter will make a difference in fuel mileage. That's been my experience.

The fuel filter will not affect mileage. If it clogs the power drops off. More throttle doesn't fix that. If it's clogged it means that more fuel cannot flow through it so you can push the throttle all you want and not get more.

A clogged filter just restricts the power and it could get clogged in one mile with a bad load of fuel or go for 100,000 miles if the fuel was always clean and dry. I haven't changed mine in almost 40,000 miles.

A clogged air filter is much different. It makes the engine EGT hotter and finally makes black smoke. Black smoke is wasted fuel.

Oh "cuss word" don't know why my mpg has dropped so much then... 29K miles stock air filter though... Maybe I should check that tonight.

I change the fuel filter every 15K but plan to back it down to 10K from now on.

they are correct the filter will not affect mileage, add a gauge and change the filter only when the pressure starts to drop under load
