Wheel and Brake Questions

I know that no one can put smaller than 17" wheels on our trucks because of the size of our brake rotors.
I haven't heard of anyone doing this, but what would happen if you put the brakes off of a Chevy on? It is the same axle and as far as I know they're running 16" wheels on their's.
I bet you could even find a Chevy driver with larger wheels that would be willing to swap out.
How far off am I?

yep front calipers

if you want go find a 01-02 dodge get the caliper bracekts, calipers and rotors and then you'll be able to fit 16" rubber

One of my buddies is running 16's on his truck but he had to have the calipers turned down on the mill...i wouldn't mess with it, just get bigger rims, it was a pain from what i remember

Why would you knowingly reduce your braking? Smaller rotors=less braking?

What I'm wondering is how the Chevy brakes compare to ours, since I have seen GMC saying that they have very good brakes. That and the 16" wheels give you lots more tire options.

What are you looking for in a tire that you would want to spend a bunch of money on calibers and take a step backwards?

What tire is out there in 16" that something in 17" can't come close?

I wonder if the GM brakes aren't like Toyota brakes... They fit an OEM 16" wheel but not any aftermarket wheels.

I'm throwing the idea out there because I have had people complain about the 17" Dodges that you can't have 16"s because of the size of the rotors. The advantage of running 16" wheels is that most of the larger trailers will be using the same wheels, that way you have a spare tire for everything.
