Leveling kit question
Leveling kit question
I have an 07 2500 Mega Cab 2WD. I'm getting 20" wheels with slightly larger than stock tires and want to level my truck 1.5"-2". I see there are spacers from various companies, however, it's also time for me to replace my OEM shocks and I'm going with Bilsteins. Is there anyone that makes an actual leveling kit with shocks or are the 2-wheel drive guys stuck with adding spacers and then buy the shocks separately. Thanks for the input, advice, or calling me a dumb@#&
From what I've been reading you have to buy the shocks separate. You can use spacers or taller springs. There was a descussion in the 2nd gen fourms about this. There is a company that will make the spring what ever hight you want. I just can't remember the company name, cost was a little more then stock springs.
Hope this helps, Rodney

A caution on the shocks. I purchased a Daystar lvling kit and got the ProComp ES900 shocks. Shocks construction was so poor I am now wondering if I was given the wrong ones for my tuck. The bushings at the top are too thick and the stud does not protrude enough to get the nut on. The bushings just generally dont fit.
At the other end of the shock where it connects to the controll arm the stock shock bracket is about 10 times beefier than the ProComp ones. The ProComp ones are a pathetic little piece of rolled metal which does not even really fit. The ends of the dog bone are spade style and the prongs bent outward as a tightend the nuts down. and that was with a little 1/4" ratchet.
Take my experience as you will, as I said the fit and construction seem so bad that I hope they are the wrong ones. Bad sign when the stock part is beefier than the aftermarket replacement.
You should be able to use stock length shocks as long as you keep the leveling kit to no more than 2". Custom shocks com into play any higher than that. Shock travel isn't effected enough to make a difference. This I was told by the dealership and Top Gun Customz.
i had an 02 leveled and didn't change shocks and i just had my 09 done and kept the stock shocks.rides as good as before.however,iv'e alway's been told that oem shocks are junky so if youv'e got some miles on them it may not hurt to swap em.
