What to look for in buying a truck

Well guys im new to this and to the forum. Since 16 now 21 I have had mustangs. Right now I have a 2003 mustang cobra (539rwhp and 585rwtq) But here lately talking to my dodge friends (Redline Ram, Smokindodge12v, and W.F.O) kinda got me thinking about buying a CTD. I would like to buy a 03 6speed HO 4x4 model. But what do I need to look for when buying? Long bed for sure but I dont know if I want a reg cab or 4 door. Would like it with all the goodies too. Any info will be greatly appreciated

What are your goals for the truck and intentions?

Well four door is really nice because of the room and so on. If you want a fast truck then get the auto if you want to only pull get the 6 speed, also auto is nice around town as a daily driver. Other than that I would try to find a truck that is bone stock that way you will have a better chance of getting a truck that hasen't been rallied. And you get to do the mods that you want. You will really enjoy these diesels if you are into speed to achieve 450 hp is very very easy.

Most of the known issues for 03's are pretty minor. The stamped steel alternator brackets can crack (photo of one in my gallery), there was a TSB about replacing the power steering hose that supplies pressure to the hydrobooster to cure vibration/buzz @ 2000 RPM, and some of them had issues with door seals.

Like any other vehicle, look for signs of collision repair, general abuse, and so on. Might not hurt to run carfax, service records would be nice, and I personally wouldn't pay much for anything that shows signs of major bombing.

Yeah I want a stick, might get crazy and go sled pullin lol

Yeah i was wondering if any of the 03s had any minor problems. I know two of my friends have 03s and they runs the off of them, well one does for sure.

What is decent mileage for an 03 or so?

Stock, with 3.73's and a stick, I generally don't get 20 or over unless I keep the speed 65 and below. Usually around 18 at normal highway speeds, and around 12 or 13 while towing the 5th wheel.

Rat, I was in the same place as you before I bought my truck. I had a '96 Cobra that had 410hp/465tq and then sold it and bought my truck. Did you look at the classifieds on this site for a truck?

Yeah WFO im talking about you lol hehe

Patriot, Im trying to sell the cobra right now. Have had some bites on it but nothing for sure. I have found some trucks that i like I just dont know if i want a QC long bed or a QC long bed dually. I would love to find a 3500 SRW QC. I also want the upgraded sound system.
Are you happy you got rid of your cobra and bought a truck?
