What about prices for new trucks in Canadian dollars?
What about prices for new trucks in Canadian dollars?
Just curious what people are paying for new trucks north of the border. I am in Calgary so I luckily dont have to worry about prov. sales tax.
I am looking at ordering a 05 2500 quad cab, 4x4 auto, loaded w/o leather or heated seats. I have just started talking to dealers, and so far they have told me they will sell for invoice +3%. I told them to beat it thus far.
I see all these posts about guys paying almost 10 grand less than msrp, and I am confident based on this that I should be able to get a similar deal north of the border.
Can anyone recommend a good Alberta dealer (I dont mind going for a drive) or advice on getting a deal at invoice minus any rebates. I understand it that you can roughly take 11% off msrp and that will be a ballpark invoice price. Please help me out.
Thx

Thx Scotty, I have a connection with cochrane dodge through a friend, but the owner and his son are away for the weekend. I will go see them on Tuesday (due to the long weekend)
Torquefan: anyone in particular that you can recommend through Claresholm?
Appreciate the info so far guys.

I have purchased 2 trucks in Canada.... Had to be careful, if the dealer finds out your a US citizen they will not sell you..... they just walk away.... DC fines them....
In both cases I bought for the company that I own that has an outlet in Edmonton and brought it back...... 350 for paperwork to get it approved for US, 150 for changing the dash over to US standards, and 18 months waiting for my GST money back......
I've been told now that a truck that was sold in Canada will no longer be coved by warranty in the US system unless it has Canadian plates and than only as a courtsy.... I purchased my 04 and 05 in Spokane at Dishman Dodge for 1000 back of dealer invoice, and rebates plus the farm bureau rebate.... I picked up my 05 yesterday......
BTW - each time I took the Canadian trucks in for service I was given a bad time... They know in an instant it was sold in Canada....

The days of good deals going south are drying up with the strong Canadian dollar and the rules that are now put on vehicles shipping south.
No warranty unless is imported after registered for at least 6 months in Canada and only by that owner if they are moving to the USA.
there was a time when there was hundreds of trucks going south daily at the one crossing I frequented.

What a fantastic name! LOL !!!!! Mooseknuckles is a term I always use instead of a camel toe. Must be a Canadian thing.
Just bought an 04 about 2 weeks ago. I'm from B.C and did not haggle on the price at all. Around 6,500 off of the MSRP at Inland Auto in Dawson Creek.

I know it's not anywhere near you, but never go to Westlock Dodge/Chrysler. They have no clue whatsoever about what the term customer service means. They'll actually argue the fact that they're rude. Legal Chrysler is great to deal with, and I hear that Crosstown in Edmonton is really good. Not sure about anything further south than that, except Drumheller, better than Westlock, but not great by any means. Personally, I'd go to Crosstown. As they're in the city, they're going to have more competition, and a larger inventory so slightly lower prices. I'm not sure as to what you'd be paying for an '05, but that'd be good for me to know too, since we're thinking about cutting our '04 loose pretty quick.

Hate to use a cliche term, but cars cost less in wetaskiwin. UGH.
Seriously enough though, I bought my 01 there, and they beat the snot out of both edmonton and calgary area dealers by at least $4500 bucks. Now, I don't know about you, but to me, that makes a short drive worthwhile.
When I bought mine, I didn't really need a truck, so I had some time to dicker with them.
The after sales service has been great, as I live about 1600 miles away from the dealer. But, any questions I have regarding warranty or anything else have been answered with no problems or attitude, by several different service techs and reps.
To me, thats worth something.

Thx again for the suggestions guys. I have no problem with the drive if it's worth it in the end. Still going to try cochrane first, then probably olds and claresholm.
Priced out the truck I want on dodge.ca the other day....ouch, came to a grand total of
$54 700 cdn.
I see posts of Americans buying for around 35 loaded. Even with the exchange rate, that should only put it around mid 40's no?

I bought my '03 at Leduc Chrysler. The salesman and I sat at his computer and priced out the truck and then added $500. The base SLT "invoice" price was about 11% less than MSRP and each option(ie. Sport Package) was about 20% less than MSRP. I saved about $5500. Crosstown in Edmonton was the cheapest ($350 less than Leduc) of 8 dealers I got quotes from but offered me $3,000 less on my trade. Having said that, I just bought a Grand Caravan last month and no one came close to the price I got in Wetaskiwin. So there's my 2, or 3, cents worth.
