Weird Accident!

I can't believe this, but this is what happened earlier today.

I dropped my truck off this morning at 8 am to get the A/C compressor changed (it died after 170K miles). They said my truck would be ready by 1:30 pm and I showed up at 2 pm. When I pulled up I was told my truck had rolled down a hill and crashed into a Cadillac and a house. I never laughed so hard, but they were not lying. There she was at the bottom of the hill between a house (patio underneath gone) and a written off 1993 Cadillac De Ville.

Anyways, I guess who ever parked the truck did not set the e brake or did not put it in gear. As far as my truck I will need a new bumper, new driver's fender, new passenger's mirror, rad shroud and that is all I could see at the time. I think the shop was a lot more concerned about my truck than I was, but hey, accidents happen.

I've been dealing with this shop for many years and I know the owner real well so there are no issues here, but I thought that I would post this story just to show that even the most trusted and respected shops can have freak accidents.

The good news is that no person or child was hurt, and as for the truck I will get a few new bolt on parts and she'll be as good as new.

Now what do you think would happen to my truck if it was, say, a uni body Honda or Nissan or whatever?

BTW, my KLM light bar, no dents or bends in it. A few scratches, other than that the bar is indestructible.

Glad no one was hurt and kudos for being cool about it. It would be real easy to get upset.

I had a similar thing happen to me few years ago with my 00. At the dealer for warranty work, hour into it the service manager came to me and asked if my throttle had ever stuck, and I said no, then he informed me the tech working on it had the throttle stick on him and hit a customers new car. Only scratched the bumper, did a good bit of damage on the other cars. Truck hit it in the B pillar, took out both doors. Find out later from friend who works there, that the kid was getting on it and lost control and hit the car.

Accidents happen, but it just kind of sucks that those repairs have to be done. Sometimes things don't go back together as well as when it was manufactured and present problems later on.
You're surprisingly calm...I would not have been so.
I can't imagine what a bystander would have thought watching it unfold!

Here are some pick that I took with my phone, I know it doesn't look like much, but there is around $5,000 worth of body damage. I went to a body shop this afternoon. The other thing that happened was the truck lunched off a 2 foot retaining wall before impact so the axle could be bent or cracked and then the rest of the front end will be checked.

The shop is being very good about what happened. Their insurance has contacted me this morning and they will be paying for everything, so the only thing I have to wait for is the parts to come in.

Thats a nice looking truck (excluding the current damage). Hope it winds up good as new. As long as the frame didnt get pranged it should turn out ok.

Yup!! I was pretty light on mine until it slowly tried to get away from me. Now I mash it on the rare occasion that I use it. Wonder if they need to break in or something?

Reminds me of a friend back in the early 80's. He had a brand new Lincoln Bill Blass edition. He took to the dealer to check on something very minor. The car had like 500 miles on it. They never told him how it happened but the car burned up inside the dealership's service bay. He always suspected that someone had spilled something and had used some flamable solvent to get it up. The fire had started in the front seat.

Long story short..he got a PAID for new lincoln out of the deal. Plus years later when he friend got into real estate, the very first property he sold was land for the same dealership that was looking to expand it's location. He got close to a 30,000 grand commision on that !.

I had my 98 roll away on me at the Buck Motorsports camping in Lancaster, PA. I locked my truck for the night before I went to bed. A bunch of of us were standing around drinkin around the fire and people started yelling someones truck is rolling away. We look up and said sucks to be that guys truck, I looked back were my truck was supposed to be sitting and sure enought I was that guy. It took out 2 chainlink fences and run over a lite pole like it wasn;t even there. Insurance covered it. About 5 grand. So I knew I really make sure the brake is set. and in gear.

My insurance company has completaly written off the front bumper and driver's fender. Anyways, they are letting me choose whatever bumper I want.

So, I was thinking of getting the Alien Patrol one, manly because its under a $1,000. Has any one had any experience with those bumpers and that company? They don't take credit cards so I wouldn't mind some input from the forum. Just scared that if I send them a cheque I will not see a bumper. Also, any suggestions on any other bumpers would be great, I just have to keep it under $1,500.

Well, just became a proud owner of an ARB bumper. They offered mea a really good deal so I couldn't resist. I had ARB products before so thats why I went with them in the end.

Can't wait.
