Accident
One of our guys was involved in an accident at 0300 hrs this morning. A drunk pulled out in front of him and he t-boned her. Our officer had to be cut from the car with the jaws of life. >Fortunately he only suffered a broken hand along with the bumps and bruises. The drunk female bailed out of her car and ran. She was found hiding in a ditch about a half a mile from the accident. Needless to say she wasnt hurt. Thought you guys might like to know. What a way to start off a Monday :'(

Re:Accident
What a bummer!! Glad he wasn't seriously hurt. I know a guy who was driving drunk and was in an accident. Luckily the person he hit only had minor injuries, but the drunk driver has been going through physical therapy for the past two years learning to walk again and move his arms. He went through a real quick detox while in the hospital, didn't have a choice, and hasn't touched a drop since. It's unfortuante that it takes that sort of an event before people realize how damaging alcoholism can be...very sad...

Huey, this was no accident.
The other driver, through choices she made, caused the collision.
"Accident" indicates there was no way to avoid the result.
Our work sponsored driving instruction tells us there are no accidents.
The choices we make, speeding, DWI, inattention, cause these collisions.
Glad to hear the officer will recover.
Hope they throw the book at the other driver. >

Amen that the Officer is Ok, I really don't understand what folks are thinking getting behind the wheel after drinking. It should be considered "Assault with a deadly weapon", If you drink too much and then get behind the wheel, you are no better than the murderers we have on death row.

Booze free always Gonzo

Re:Accident
Funny you should suggest "Assault with a deadly weapon". Just last month my dad was slammed by a drunk in Louisville. Destroyed his Explorer (beautiful truck for a Ford), my old man escaped unscathed thank God... the police threw a few books at the drunk. He was charged with DUI, assault with a deadly weapon/intent to kill, attempted vehicular homicide, resisting arrest, and got a speeding ticket to boot. He deserved it. I have driven drunk a few times and am not proud of this, if I had gotten caught, god forbid hurting someone, I;d expect no less for myself. -Dave
