Accident
Ok so last night i swung my new 2005 truck into my dads jeep while backing up. i was worried about the other two cars and being tired, forgot about his. that is till the sickneing crunch. so i mangled my passenger front door. the fender is ok. it opens and closes but its not quite right. best case scenario they must replace the door skin and realign the hinges. worst case replace the door.
I have a $250 comprhensive and 500 collision. im guessing collision? im gonna go get a couple of quotes now then maybe turn it in depending on how much it is.
wow im so miserable
Anyways so anyone got an idea how much im looking at?
Also wondering best place to take it.
this stinks

That SUCKS!
Same thing happened to me, kinda. I had my truck for 3 weeks, doing major work on my house, almost finised. My neighbor comes over to give me an estimate on some excavation work. As he is leaving, my truck is parked on the lawn, he backs right into my bed. Hit the passenger side between the rear wheel well and bumper. He has no insurance, long story. I wind up turning it into my insurance co. Told them it happened at Lowes while I was shopping, and that I didn't notice it till I got home, it was on the passenger side. Michigan is a no-fault state. They covered it, and I got free excavation work. I was without the truck for 3 weeks!
The Insurance Co went with collision. No out of pocket for me, body shop covered it for having the truck for so long.
$1500 in damage. They had to replace the entire side of the bed, and I just had the Line-X installed. Couldn't get that repaired for another 3 months. Had to wait for the paint to cure. I figured the truck is shot now, so let the bombing begin! Naw, they did a great job on the repair, and the Line-X was "flawlessly" restored.

You may be better off just paying cash and not claiming it on insurance. Whenever I make a claim it is for say over 3000 in damage.. Otherwise the insurance company may increase your rates and if they drop you any other company will know about the claims you have made in the past.. Don't EVER claim small damage like a broken windshield..Ever wonder why our health insurance is so high?? Most people use insurance from everything to a cold, to an earache.. Health insurance should be for a "catastrophic" event. Like cancer, heart attack, broken bones.. Just think how expensive car insurance would be if we claimed, tires, wiper blades, oil changes....
Replacing the door skin will run around 700 bucks, I'd shell out another 250 and have the door shell replaced. On an older truck I'd probably go the cheaper route but there is a difference. It's what I do for a living lol.
Like falcondan9570 said pay yourself...I had two minor accidents with my truck and went to Dodge to have them fixed. The first time they came out started working on the estimate, had it around $1000 bucks and asked to see my insurance information. I told them that I wasn't planning on using my insurance since I had caused the damage backing a trailer.
They came back and said about $500. That’s a big savings, which kind of gets you thinking. The whole idea you are paying into your insurance company and these shops are abusing estimates this much, is aggravating. How much could we save on car insurance if repairs paid out by insurance companies were negotiated more fairly?
My insurance company allows you to have one "freebie" in a set amount of time, without your rates increasing. I figured that since I have a $250 deductible the repair would only be another $250. Saving me an insurance claim when I might really need it.
