I just put some tube sand in my 05 2500 2wd. I think around 550lbs or so. It helped some getting around but this truck is still not getting around in the snow very good. My 95 Ram 2wd is about useless in the snow and my old 74 Dodge D200 I put 2 6 foot pieces of railroad rail in the back of it and that truck is about unstoppable. I've never had it stuck. I have had it in snow a few times where I had to back up 10-15 feet and get a run at it but its always busted thru and kept going.

I have always wanted to scale the 3 trucks with race car scales jacking each truck up and putting the individual scales under each wheel and see what the weights are like on each truck an ratio front to back.

I too don't understand the weight. I used to run weight in my rigs, but no longer do.

Yes it will help you get going, but it's also more weight to stop and turn which, IMHO, outweighs any gains of traction.

Set the tire pressure a little lower and go, you would be surprised what a few psi will do for traction.

I would guess that with the torque these trucks make you would need at least 2500lbs in the bed to make enough of a difference on traction to make it worth while. Now you are running a lot of air in the tires, and my truck would weigh 11,000 lbs. I think I would be worse off, except from a stop in 2wd, nearly all of the time.

I used to put 200-300# in the bed of my old F150... I never once noticed a difference. If I'm slipping that bad, I'll throw it in 4x4. That weight in the back isn't going to help me if my front tires slip in a turn anyway.... But 4x4 can let me pull in the direction I want to turn.

I think the weight is more placebo than anything.
