I know I've seen here before. Where can I find the explanitions of what the VIN means in terms of equipment, etc. I found some for '03 and older, but I'm looking for '04 and '05 trucks. The search function will not let me look for "VIN" because it's less than four letters.

I know it's a newbie question, but just please help a guy out...thanks.

 

Unless I'm mistaken, the VIN won't give a ton of detail regarding options on the vehicle, once deciphered, it'll give you general info such as country of origin, make, model, and maybe engine and transmission info.

What you need to find is the option codes for the vehicle, those are usually listed on a sticker near the door jamb or in the glovebox. That'll be a list of all the options on the vehicle. Usually those options are described in three or four digit codes, these codes are shown on the mfr's wesite, or you can get a list of them on Edmunds.com.

 

Yup, it'll only give details of the truck itself, not what was put into it. Here's the break down of my 03 I got from AllData from my shop back home...

I haven't looked it up on AllData for my new truck, but it's all the same except for the engine code (and the build # too...). However the trucks themselves have different packages on them to make them different.

I don't have a VIN yet, or a truck to put it on for that matter. I was just looking at some trucks on line and the only info I had on some was the VIN. I just wanted nto see how much info i could get from it.

The biggest question I had was would the VIN tell if a 3500 had SRW or DRW?

I guess I should have posed that question from the beginning. Oh well, like I said, just a newb.

 

7th position... 2 is a 2500. That I know for sure... guessing a 3 is 3500??? I dunno for sure. As for DRW or SRW... that I don't know if it'll say. You can always get those VINs and compare it to what I listed above and compare.
