I went and spoke with my dealership today and the service writer knew exactly what i was talking about. She printed me the TSB so here is the info for anyone interested:

TSB #22-005-06

Models:
2003-2007 (DR/DH/D1/DC) Ram Truck (2500/3500)

NOTE: This bulletin applies to four wheel drive (4x4) 2500 and 3500 model vehicles.

Symptom/Condition:
The customer may experience a self sustaining vibration (shimmy) felt in the front end of the vehicle after striking a bump or pothole.

Parts Required:
52106909AE--Damper, Steering
05086146AC--End Package, Tie Rod Outer
05086144AC--End Package, Tie Rod and Link Outer
06505623AA--Nut and Washer, Tie Rod

So, the only question I have is how are you guys with early '08s that didn't have this upgraded package already installed when you bought the truck getting the dealership to replace it under warranty since the TSB only technically goes to 2007 trucks (since it was released in October of 2006, there was no 2008 at the time)? Im probably going to be bringing my truck in for them to look at it next Wednesday and they are going to take a look at it and see if anything needs replacing. My suspension doesn't feel bad at all right now but i hope there is enough play in the tie rods to ensure i get this new package. Im at 33000 miles (and will likely be getting close to 36000 miles by next Wednesday) so I would definately like to have all this done before the warranty runs out.

So those of you with the '08s; how are you getting your dealership to replace this stuff under warranty?

do those parts in the tsb include the shafts or whatever you call them in the pic, they seem to be glossy black like they were replaced to not just the ends.
or is that everything thats shiny black in his pic, guess thats a easier way of putting it
yeah i dont know the names for these parts

From what i understand, this TSB wasn't initially published with these parts in mind. The new "upgraded" steering setup came out this year and is on mid-08 trucks. The part numbers i referenced apparently are superceded to this new "kit" that includes everything from the pitman arm, drag link, tie rod, tie rod sleeves, steering damper, the works. This is the other part number, supposedly for the entire "kit" if you want to buy it outright instead of trying to get the dealership to comp it:

52122362AB--Steering Kit, $187
52122370AA--Steering Stabilizer, $138
6505623AA--Nuts (3), to attach new linkage
6502835--Nuts (2), to attach steering damper
6502473--Bolt (1), to attach steering damper

They haven't yet. We will see when I take the truck back next week. Im less concerned at the level lift as i am about them messing with my Thuren trackbar or my SSSSS.

Like I posted above, I had a little bit of bump steer which seems to be gone now. The front end feels tight and new again, don't know if that is the new steering alone or the steering and new ball joints combined.

If I decide to buy this kit from the dealership, wouldn't it be better to get an aftermarket steering stabilizer instead of a factory one for $138? Seems expensive for a factory steering stabilizer unless its beefed up considerably also.

Seems to me you could by a steering stabalizer from somewhere for about $40bucks and spend $140 on this kit and be done with it.

I am trying to find if the skyjacker damper I have found is truly the correct fit for stock applications and if so I will order this kit since I need new tie rod ends anyway.

I just had all this replaced on my truck last month under warranty. I took it in complaining about the steering wandering slightly above 40 mph. I had found play in the ball joints and hoped on getting them replaced but the dealer told me they were within spec , and that they were replacing all the steering linkage with updated parts. Funny thing was, there was absolutely no play in any of the parts they replaced. I love dealing with dealerships . Oh well, at least I got a free alignment before I put my new tires on.

Isn't it preferred to get an alignment after you get the new tires?

I don't think new tires would have much to do with it. You just wouldn't want to wait too long to align it after new tires... The alignment equipment attaches to the rim, not the tires...

it won't be covered under warranty but will physically fit on your truck (provided it's a 4x4) if you want to buy the parts.
