Understanding a Bully Dog System

Fairly new to the whole "trucking" thing and was wondering if anyone could breifly explain the benefits of the Bully Dog systems and if it was worth the purchase. With my truck having a 6in lift with 20in wheels, it seems to struggle at times to get up and go like it use to. Thanx in advance....Jamie

It will set you back in your seat. No comparison to stock. Take this to the performance section and you will get alot of info I am sure.

If you are running automatic be careful in the higher setting with those larger tires because you will be replacing the tranny. If it is 6 spd you may be buying a clutch. The tow setting will help alot and be the safest for the running gear.

Heck just go all out and download Crazy Larry. I did and it was awesome with my 6' lift and 20's... You couldn't even tell they were on there.. But you had to be smart about it also. You can roast a tranny and injectors and a turbo if you don't have the guages to monitor your motor... I had the analog guages and the outlook for safety.. But as far the the bullydog system goes you'll love it.. I still do I downloaded it off of my 05 when I sold it and upgraded it to my 06!!! Tons of options and safety features and lots of power. I don't have Crazy Larry on my 06 I just run it on extreme because I haven't gotten any guages yet!! and I don't plan on pushing 37's and 20's although I just picked up a set of 35's... Oh yeah you will want to do an intake and exhaust also and if you go crazy larry look out soot... She'll smoke out an intersection with that..

Also the tri-before you buy only works off of key cycles! Not days. I think it is like 3 key cycles and it's gone. Check the classified's you can pick-up a used one for a lot cheaper-some with the outlook's and Crazy Larrry installed.

Thanks for the info Shane. I thought it was a 3 day thing, not a 3 key turn. I think I will take your advice and try to find the set-up cheaper through the classifieds. I do want the triple dog with the outlook though. As far as the Crazy Larry mod, what difference is there? Also, what gauages did you use to monitor (boost, waste gate...?) Just trying to understand the process and what I need to be looking for when buying and what to expect after installed. (speaking of which, is it a plug and play thing, or is it something I am going to have to bribe a cutom truck store to install?) Thanx everyone for the info....Jamie

It takes about 5 minutes to download by yourself and your off to the races!! Really Simple.. You can also download the newest versions off of BD's web-site. Really simple to use.. If you have a manual I would recomend monitoring egt's - boost - and fuel pressure the guage kit from dieselmanor.com is about $300 if you have the auto I would monitor egt's - boost - and tranny temps.. There is also an outlook monitor in the classified's right now for dirt cheap.. $200 I paid $375 for mine new... I would buy it for my 06 but don't know if it would work... Plus the outlook does so many options for the money.. You can adjust your speedo for your larger tire (mine was off 12 mph), you can monitor four functions at one time. I had mine set for the speed, boost, pyro and Injector control pressure.. This would eliminate having to loose your grab handle for guages unless you use an overhead mount or the in the cubbyhole guage mount...

Here's a pic of my 05's guages

very nice set-up. I really appreciate the info I would have got this stuff and had no clue what to watch for. Just to clarify, I can monitor all the needed values through the Outlook and then could refrain form buying the pods? I do however like the look of the pods, just not to hip about paying over $300 for them. As far as the system, is it a plug and play kinda system? I do understand that I can just download the Crazy Larry upgrade, however just still unclear about the Triple Dogg itself. Thanx alot for all the help Shane.....Jamie

I have just the bdtd. I love it. You can change between settings by pressing 2 buttons. If you want to change power levels, then just plug it in and press up or down to the level you want and press yes. Unlike others, such as the Superchips flashpaq, if you want to change settings it takes 15 minutes. I didn't download the crazy larry setting. I keep mine on performance. It is great. It also allows you to change other things on your truck. Such as high idle, the horn chirp when you lock your doors, change the amount of time your headlights stay on after you turn off your truck, using your fog lights and your high beams at the same time, etc. My favorite is the accessory setting. On my 02 chevy the radio and stuff would stay on once you turned off the key and would stay on until you opened the door. You can set this on the BDTD to stay on for 10 secs up to 60 mins. That way you can turn off your truck and listen to the radio without having to have your key on accessory. I don't have any gauges etc. I don't need them. There is no reason to have them if you are smart about driving your truck. Some like to have them but I don't need them

Yes it is just a plug and play if you want to change the settings you'll have to leave the BDTD plugged in you can change it on the fly but if you have the outlook you don't need guages and you can also change the settings without the downloader plugged in.. I do recomend guages though if you are going to tow anything or turn it off.. With my lift and tires towing a four wheeler would make my egt's hit 1500 degrees nothing flat!!!!! It's pours a lot of fuel into the motor to make that much power... That is Crazy Larry though I found if you just put it on performance(90) Hp it wouldn't get at hot as fast... It will still get hot though... I wouldn't own one of these trucks without guages..They are expensive but what is it worth when you can save a motor, turbo or tranny... It's a small price to pay... Plus your truck is allready working harder pushing those tires and rims... I know trust me I used to do it also... You don't need to buy any pods for the outlook it comes with a mounting device for the window or like I had it mounted in the corner of the dash.. I kind of kept it hidden from other ferd's and durapad's..

Any more ??? feel free to ask and I'll help..

Let me add that you do not have to leave it plugged in all the time. If you want to change to a different level then just plug it in real quick, while driving or not, and change it then unplug it. I do mine that way.
