Truck had a brain fart

today i was haulling my horse trailer empty to pick up a horse. i had just got on the highway and got it up to speed. "75 to 80" and my speedo and Tach dropped down to 0 and my fuel light came on all for just a milli second and everything went back to norm and the truck was running fine it didn't miss or lunge. Anyone know anything about that or had it happen to them? the only code i get is P 0573 which is some high voltage to the brake light. Truck running fine now i pulled about 250 miles after that with two horses so trailer and all about 8-10K with no problem.

Just a guess, but if your lift pump is still stock.........that is usually the culprit on our trucks to cause something like this. I would have it checked out or replaced before it leaves you stranded.

I would go ahead and upgrade it with a GDP or FASS instead of getting the "in-tank" pump.

I don't think the brake light code had anything to do with it. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Why would the lift pump cause his dash to go haywire like that?

Sounds like an electrical issue somewhere. Since you got a code related to the brake lights I would start by checking the trucks brake lights and the trailer wiring.

SYMPTOM
P0573-HIGH VOLTAGE DETECTED AT THE BRAKE SWITCH

WHEN MONITORED
While the ignition is on.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
Brake switch shorted to voltage

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

BRAKE SWITCH SHORTED TO VOLTAGE

Repair Brake switch shorted to voltage.

sounds like a bad brake switch to me...if the brake lights still work I guess it could have been a fluke????
but I would defiantly check the brake lights

ok about the brakes i had my Lamp out light come on and off a million times one day so i check my lights and found that the drive brake light wouldn't work some times so i look at it and the metal on the bulb looked to be burnt like it was comming in and out of contact so i ben the female prongs in some to make a better connection. so now the brake lights are working fine and the lamp out light has gone. if that was making codes would it go away as soon as it was fixed or do i need to reset something? are the light thing happened before my dash did its thing. do i need to take it to a shop or should i go to Dodge?

I had kinda the same problem with an 04. The dash gauges would go gooffy for just a second, then everything would be OK no codes. After a second time I took it to a dealer and they couldn't find anything. The third time it happened my lift pump died. Got a in/tank retro fit by dealer under emisions warranty. 2 months later gauges went gooffy and turck died in the middle of the desert. Towed to nearest dealer 150 miles. after 1 week at the dealer the truck started. Dealer still couldn't find anything wrong. Drove the truck home and traded it in on an 06.

Had this happen to my 98.5 a couple times over 2 weeks. Found one of 3 extra wires attached to positive post had been eaten thru with acid. Cleaned posts and replaced wire end about a month ago and haven't had any more trouble. I think that is what caused it.
Good Luck
