truck bed ramp

Hope these pics come across.
I'm adding a winch and ramp to get my jetski in the bed.
Winch goes on front wall of bed and pulls ski up ramp.
Anyone care to comment on this idea? I have no better ones.
thanks fellas!

I think that would work. It will still be a (2) man operation, in my opinion. Most places have quite a bit of boat traffic. With waves crashing up the ramp, will need someone running the winch and someove holding the ski in place (at least the first few feet up). I assume you have a plan for when the truck & jetski get home.

LOL, yeah that had crossed my mind!
I'm gonna get uoe of those atv/pwc jacks to lower and store itt on.
The winch is $59 at Harbor Freight and has a 10' remote control so I hope I can hold the ski and operate the winch from afar.

thanks for replying...

I don't know how heavy those ski's are, but that metal on the front of the bed is not strudy for anything. You can push it up against the cab of your truck with your own hands, and I am pretty sure it will pull backwards just as easy. Something to think about, and that metal does not deflect back to it's normal position by itself.... On my last truck I never got that rail back completely straight after the 4-wheeler hit it when i slammed on brakes..

You should probably fabricate a winch mount/support utilizing the stake pockets. Like HappyGA said the front wall of the bed isn't very strong.

By putting a chain (as tight as possible) across the bed tie downs up front, I've been able to winch up several heavy loads with no problem.....Not sure if a PWC would have maxed out the tie downs ...probably more than a rolling ATV load..for sure

Heck all you gotta do is just get some speed and ride it up the ramp. You just need some good aim.

Just thought about it this morning. How will you get the Jetski back in the water? Won't it be hard to move off the bed, then scream off the ramp? Just thinking it thru...

Whats wrong with a trailer, just back it in the water and drive it up on it to get it out, seems like a lot of extra work my back dosent want to do.

HappyGA and ptgarcia you're right, I'll either need to add a foot square sheet of plate steel between the cab and bed or make some posts to go in the stake pockets with a bar running in between them and mount the winch to that. At least that would negate drilling holes in the bed! Are the stake-pockets reinforced for that kind of use?

Chucktuna, I like that idea and maybe a come-along would do it. I wonder what the rating on those bed cleats is, I mean they are plastic! I'm gonna call Dodge.
The ski weighs 600lbs whereas a quad's about 400lbs.

Foxborough, the winch will power out as well as power in so I'm hoping that will slow the ski's decent without burning it up. I'm hoping to leave some slack in the winch cable, climb in the bed and drag the ski onto the ramp and then lower it safely from outside the bed. I hope God will be watching over me the first time!

I'll be towing a boat as well, that's why I need the ski in the bed and not on a trailer.

Thanks guys!

My vote is for the trailer. Much less work for one person.

O.K. never mind about the trailer, didn't know about the boat.

I'd do a bit more research on the trailer idea. I've seen some trailers out in Ca. that have 2 pwc's side by side with a boat on the back.
Doubles? pull a small trailer with pwc's behind the boat. A real bear to back up.
