Tow Rating
Well to get a specific tow rating your going to have to list if it is a long box or short box, a dually or SRW, and what type of cab
However you're probably somewhere in the 12k-16k area, yeah i know that is vague.
You can always tow more with a goose/5th wheel. You don't see many semis with bumper pull trailers.
to find out exactly you can build your exact truck on dodge.com.

Thanks DP88 I did check out the dodge website and looked under the weights/capacities for the 2500 and 3500 models. My truck is a srw and the page says just under 16000 on the 3500 and just under 13000 on the 2500. I could not find a differant capacity for the 3500 srw vs. drw. It just says when properly equipped.Any thoughts ?

Unless something has changed that I am not aware of, all 3rd gen Dodge Cummins powered trucks with a 3.73 rear axle ratio have a GCVWR of 21,000lbs. The 4.10s up it to 23,000lbs.
You can just go weigh your truck at a local CAT scales and subtract your truck weight from the 21,000lbs. Your truck probably weighs in the neighborhood of 7500lbs....so 21,000 minus 7500 equals 13,500.
The other factor is your GVWR. A SRW 3500 gvwr is 9900lbs. So keep that in mind when adding in the pin weight of a goose neck or 5ver hitch weight.
Those are just ratings from DC though. The truck will comfortably haul and pull much more weight that DC says it will.
Great info MoparNut. On the 3500 4x4 QC SB SRW your coming up with 14000 with 373s and 16000 with 410s. Wow thats more than the DRW.My truck is manual tranny . I would think that there would be a differance with 6spd compared to auto.In 06 as far as I know the 6spd was only offerd with 373s.Even with the taller gears my truck was geared rediculisly low overall.I thought the 6spd would give me a higher tow rating. Also wondering if a fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch would make any differance. Any thoughts?

You should look into a B&W turnover ball hitch and the optional 5th wheel attachment. My dad had good luck with it on his duramax, cause he did both and it is really easy to swich.
However, i'm not sure if those are as heavy duty as some others. Somebody else will probably chime in on other types/brands.

I am not really worried about the truck being able to pull the load. Im concerned about the legal issues and whether my insurance would honor a claim if I was overloaded.Thinking about a HD goosneck dump trailer and would eventually be able to tow a good sized offshore fishing boat.I would hate to wreck a really expensive boat and find out that the insurance company would not honor the claim
