Going to pick up my new truck next week. Is isn 08 3500, 6.7, 6spd auto with 3:73 gears. It is a dually 4X4 QC. I cannot find the tow rating on it anywhere. Can't read the numbers on the Dodge site. Anybody out there know what they are and what the difference would be with 4:10's.

 

At the Dodge site it shows 10,400 to 16,900 with 16,600 with the 4.10 gears. Bed length has a bearing on how much so I would guess if you could get a dually short bed in the QC it would be the 16,900 with the 4.10s. I can't find a way to select the 3.73 gears but if I recall there will be something on the order of 1,000 to 2,000 lb less.

 

You should weigh the truck at some "CAT" Scales (prob 7500lbs) and subtract that weight from 21,000 lbs (GCVWR). The weight left over would be the weight you could pull and stay within Dodge's tow ratings with 3.73 gears. 4.10s are 23,000lbs. GCVWR.


The truck is capable of pulling much much more and many guys here do it every day. But that is the rating that Dodge decided to put on them, unless something has changed since the 3rd gens first came out in 03.

You give up about 3K with the 3.73s vs. th 4.10, but the 4.10's only shown with the auto trans with the diesel it seems.

That doesn't work because it doesn't include the dually or the current 6 speed automatic. The Dodge sites seem to be hopeless.

 

I would just call Chrysler & ask to speak to an Engineer who is familiar with their Dodge truck towing capabilities. Nothing against message boards, but I found it quicker in the past to go straight to the source.

Not to say your right or wrong but who you call may also have no clue or look at the same public web sites we can see.

If you have a magical number for a really knowable engineer that will actually take the time to talk to random cold calls about the capabilities of our trucks please lets see it. Otherwise this board is full of people that are knowledgeable and willing to help.

For example, 2008 3500 QC 160.5 wheelbase, Dually, Laramie, Long Bed, Diesel, Auto, 3.73 is rated for towing at 13,250 (less weight of optional equipment). Put the 4.10s in it and you're up to 15,250. Its all there.

Seems to me ya'll are making this overly complicated. Weigh the truck and subtract the weight from the GCVWR.....21,000lbs. Voila! There is your maximum "rated" tow capacity.

I agree but the problem was I couldn't get anyone to tell me the CGVW at first. Calling Dodge was really a waste of time. Couldn't find anything and their reference to the internet didn't work. I had to come here to find the 21,000 so I will from there. Just couldn't find an official site with the #'s for my model.

As per the brochure on dodge.com its 13.8K with 3.73's and 16.8K with 4.10's....
