Tires

Hey guys, I need new tires on my 3500 Dually but I have been told that my 07 Dodge dually will only do well with the factory Generals on it because of the tread foot print. Is there any thruth to this and if not what tires are you running without problems? I do pull a 35" gooseneck with two Jeeps on it.

The factory Generals are crap. I'd be willing to bet just about ANY other quality tire you put on it will ride and handle better than them.

Do you want a highway tire? All terrain?

Michelin makes excellent highway tires. Toyo also makes a great highway tread.

If you want an All terrain, you can choose from BFG,Nitto,Toyo,Cooper,Goodyear, and more.

Personally, for a highway tire I'd go with Toyos Open Country H/T.

For an All terrain,I'd go with their Open country A/T.

Well I am 2 wheel drive so I don't see anything but HWY miles, some city but no off road hehe. Now rarely I will pull on a gravel road or grass. I want something that will handle miles good AND be safe to hold the load I pull.

Sounds like you may want to look at the Nitto Dura Grappler. Rated for high mileage.

My truck isn't a dually but the Michelin (A/T) that came stock have worked great for me. Solid as a rock towing the boat (#6500 cuddy cabin) even in crosswinds. So far have 56k on them in very mixed driving, I will need to get new ones before winter. The drawback I have noticed is they aren't really good in deep snow but with 4 wheel drive it's not a biggie for me.

I also have General tires on my DRW. My next set will be Michelin LTX M/S LT235/80R-17.
My Explorer come with Michelins. That first set went 83k and was still above the ware bar when replaced. This set has about 15k on them now and they still look new. My 06 CTD 4X4 came with the same tire.
IMO, the draw back is, they are not cheep. Then again, you get what you pay for.

My buddies Duramax came with the Duravis'. He likes them so much he noticed a set of the Duravis takeoffs at the GM dealer and bought them even though he didn't need them yet.

they look like an awesome tire to me....seem designed very similar to a tractor trailer ribbed shoulder drive tire

With the solid shoulder rib i think they would wear very well on a dually and last a long time

My stock generals are probably going to be useless by the time i am at 50000, the duravis is what im looking at for a replacement

Here's the thread, where I was asking about the nitto dura grapplers.

I'm still torn...For the pricing, I'm stuck between the Bridgestone and the Nitto's. I'm leaning towards the Nitto's, because the give a treadlife warranty and have a good reputation on DTR.

levigarrett76, that was the link I was about to post. Yes, I do like the looks of the bridgestones.

What to do????

Tony

I call this total bull, any trie in the 235/80/17 loan range E (stock size) should work well on your truck, sure some will handle somewhat better than others, go with the brand and tread desinge that you like and think will give you the service you want.
This is just like the Chevy/GMC, Ford, and Dodge debate of wich is better, it is all personal opinion.

my generals have just under 45000 on them and they are down to about 4/32's

i have roatated them every 7500-10000 miles and kept air in fronts at 70 psi, and rears at 35-50 psi..talk about some **** poor tires.

I needed tires recently, and was talking to one of the discount tire guys. He said that they just had a 2wd Dodge dually in with 55k on Goodyear SR-A's. He said that the key to dually's is to rotate them every 3k, as the inside dual tire pressure changes more than the outside dual due to heat from the brake, and not being able to dissipate it as well as the other tires; and this causes cupping and uneven wear. I found them on sale online for $126, and discount matched the price, and I ended up out the door for less than $1k. Great deal, and we'll see how they last rotating them every 3k.
