Time for a change?

I'm looking for opinions on the consequences of using a very slippery semi synthetic in early to mid break-in.

I'm approaching 5000 miles and have done EXTENSIVE research on oils looking for the best one. I have chosen Torco premium diesel. It's not a full synthetic, but it is VERY slippery. A friend says I should wait longer before switching to a slippery oil to allow more time for break-in. I want to change it now because early break-in is the hardest on the oil. So, should I change to the Torco now or should I use something not as good for another 5000 before going to the Torco for the next 10,000 miles?

FWIW, I'll probably drive 5000 miles w/ 7K lb trailer in the next 30 days.

Well, I'm not an expert, but I know Cummins says not to use synthetics until fully broken in, so personally, that's what I did. I suppose the worst thing that could happen would be the rings would never fully seat...

The owners manual and Cummins recommend not to use synthetics until 20,000 miles is reached.
